“Appealing to All Age Groups”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2013

We were in Marseille for one day as a stop on a cruise. Our family group ranged from 73 to 8 in age, and we didn't have a lot of time, so I suggested Le Petit Train, which I had read good reviews of online. There are two different routes, I believe; we did the one from the station in Marseille which went up to Basilique Notre Dame. It was a perfect choice. For one thing, it's very affordable. For another, there is a lovely view on the train route up to Notre Dame. You stay up there for about 20-30 minutes, and then catch another train back to the marina. Some members of our group were unable to navigate the stairs from the parking lot up to the church, but there are plenty of views just from the parking lot, and it was pleasant enough to wait there for the rest of us who were able/willing to explore the church. It was interesting and short enough for even my 8-year old to enjoy. Highly recommended!

“Pleasant way to get around”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2013

We were in Marseille for only a day as we were on a Cruise. This little train was on my list as we had tried many around France and found that they give you a good overall view in a short time.
We caught the train in front of the Marina/Port which is something to see on its own, we travelled around to the opposite side along the harbour and then upwards to Notre Dame, where you can depart and look around and then pickup another train to continue your trip. The view from up on the hill over Marseille was great. The trip cost 8 Euros each.

“A quick and easy overview of the city.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 14, 2013

Amid the crowds and bustle of Marseille's harbor and captivating buildings, this is a great way to get a panoramic overview of the city. You get to see the harbor basin, the port, nearby islands and back road residences on your way up the steep hill that is capped by the Basilique Notre Dame de la Garde. The sites along the way are stunning and the open-air ambiance is fun as well. You get squeezed in 3 or 4 to a bench seat but it is not too uncomfortable. Try to get a seat that allows you to see out and up (left side of the bench) because much of what you see is above you. The right side allows sea views. The round trip ride cost 8 euro each. One drawback is that there are no earphones so the English commentary via small speakers is hard to hear over the road noise. There are toilets, water and concessions at the Basilique (manditory stop off) so you don't need to carry much. There are men selling bottled water at the loading point as well. This is a great way to be introduced to the city.

“Easy way to get to Notre-Dame de la Garde”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2013

We took this little tourist train around Marseille up to Notre-Dame de la Garde. The commentary in any language was too brief to be of value. However, it was a pleasant ride around the city and an easy way to get to the church at the top (which has splendid views of the city). We left from the old port, since they drive in the bus lanes, the traffic jams were mostly avoided.

Departures every 20 minutes was very approximate. They seemed to wait until they could pack the little train with 4 abreast in most rows before departure.
