We stayed in this hotel with my mother for one night and we enjoyed it. The location is absolutely wonderful, just several steps from the old port. We could see the sea from the balcony. The room is not big as always in France but we had everything we need, even a spacious bathroom. I really loved the breakfast with a lot of fresh food (yogurt, cakes, tea-coffee, milk, fruit). The staff was really attentive and nice, speaking english well.

One of the truly great features of this hotel is its' location near the Old Port, the metro stop which is directly across the street, and the fact that the train station is a short walk (or cheap cab ride). The front desk was friendly and courteous, and the hotel was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was not included in the room rate, but was a good value as "ala carte at a Marseille cafe" can quickly add up. We were originally assigned a rather large room on the top floor of the hotel (the downside is that the room was like an attic with windows that opened like skylights), but were allowed to change after we requested a slightly smaller room on the side of the hotel. There are many fine restaurants in the area offerring fixed price dinner menus (15 euros). Marseille is getting ready for a major cultural event in 2013, which means there is a lot of construction underway in the area near the hotel. A visitor should try to visit Notre Dame de la Garde which is visible anywhere on the city (it is high on a hill and dominates the skyline). If you have time, take the 2 hour boat trip to the Calanques which are truly spectacular.

I was here during the World Water Forum in Marseille so the prices was a bit ridiculous. Having said that, the hotel was very very centrally located so it is a great walk to just about everything. Because it is so centrally located, the room tends to get noisy even though we faced a side street. The breakfast was expensive at 15 euros/day so you are better off going somewhere else. The restaurant they recommended for dinner was quite expensive but really not that great. One night we were woken up by a false alarm and there wasn't great fire safety procedure. There really wasn't an announcement of what is happening. The room is very clean and renovated - we got a somewhat deluxe room so it was bigger than others.

The hotel is perfectly located - a stone's throw from the vieux port, the main shopping areas and a wealth of cafes and restaurants (both local and touristy). Be aware though that most of the city is undergoing renovations and that there are widespread roadworks in preparation for the Euro capital of culture in 2013. This is obviously not a fault on the part of the hotel but it does mean that the vieux port, and indeed really the city itself, are not quite the pull that they should be until the works are complete.

The hotel itself is no frills, but of a high quality. The room we had was small but well kept and clean. Air con, TV and bathroom great. Very comfy bed gave us the best holiday sleep in years. Fairly quiet given the location. The room overlooked the Canebiere from a fairly spacious balcony.

There are no dining areas except the breakfast room so you'll need to eat out (not a problem in Marseille!) Breakfast is very good - bread, cakes, cheese, crepes, fruit, yoghurt and a coffee machine that pumps out a very reasonable espresso. The machine was "en panne" for 4 of our 7 days but it did eventually get fixed.

There are no room safes, but one safe for the hotel. This is endearingly French and ridiculous: it involves you leaving your belongings in an envelope, sealing and signing the actual envelope, then the receptionist signs the belongings in, takes a photocopy, you sign both copies and keep yours, then each time you put or retrieve something (the receptionist has to go upstairs to get your envelope of course!), you repeat the whole exercise. Room safes would be much simpler, but this is France.

The staff are, without exception, lovely. They were welcoming, friendly, helpful and polite. They really helped make our stay a very positive one.

Marseille is a great place, though a bit of a building site for the next year or so. But I would certainly recommend Oceania if you're planning a stay.

A great spot on the Vieux Port. The rooms were sound proof. Our room faced the main street to the harbour which runs right in front of the hotel. We walked to the hotel from the train station. The entire city seemed to be undergoing renovation. It was a struggle to pull our suitcases along the road/sidewalk from the train station. We had thought it would be easy. It will be by this fall I am sure. The port area is undergoing renovation as well so some areas were hard to get to on foot. The room was a fair sizeand we had breakfast included.

This hotel is in a great location, the staff are helpful and rooms are kept to an excellent standard.
After arriving in Marseille the previous night and having an awful experience with our first hotel, my partner and I were looking for somewhere new to stay near the old port. We arrived outside the Escale Oceana hoping that they would have room for us that night. They only had one room left which we whipped up straight away, although the room was not yet ready the lady behind the desk was very helpful and let us leave our bags in a safe place while we spent the day exploring. we came back later that afternoon and the room was ready as promised, we took the lift up to the top floor and opened our room door, the room was great, so spacious and clean, it had a huge walk in shower room and separate toilet, it was decorated very modern, it had a king-size double bed and had a massive flat screen tv with some English channels (not that we had much time to watch it) i couldn’t fault the room and as it was on the top floor there was a large window that we opened on the roof and had great views. i would advise anyone to stay at this hotel if they are visiting Marseille.
