Reviewed December 3, 2012

We stayed here for 4 nights at the end of Nov 2012 in a superior room with a smallish balcony.

The location of the hotel was excellent, within easy walking distance of the old port, main shopping streets and places of interest. The St Charles train and bus station is only a 15 min walk away.

The superior room was large and spacious on the 4th floor with an Indian theme and a very nice view of the old port (which we requested before we travelled). Other rooms face pedestrianised streets. The room was fairly modern but could do with some updating, and we had to keep requesting extra towels as the bathtowels were not sufficient in size.

Breakfast was included - basic but good - choice of cereals, yoghurts and fresh juice.

There was a bit of noise from outside as the road was being repaired but as it was not so warm we could sleep with the windows closed.

Be aware that the lift only goes to the 4th floor and not up to the 5th floor.

We would recommend this hotel as it was very well located for the city centre and port area.

Room Tip: Superior rooms on higher floors with a view of the Old Port are very nice (floors 3-5). The lift onl...

Dear Guest, thanks for having posted a review. You're right, the hotel is lucky to have such a central location, near restaurants, shops, train station and tourism office. At this time there is a huge construction on the port but in few days we will have a new port! We hope to welcome you again in this new town!

I stayed in the New Hotel Montpellier was great so I was expecting the same kind of service in Marseille. But the room were dissapointing, the lamp and the walls look dirty and used.
The hotel manager was nice, and the beds as always very confortable.

The hotel had potential but the standards in Marseille are so low that you can't find better unfortunately. If you stay there make sure you find a special rate because it will make it worth your while as their above average rates will make you think twice before going back.

Stayed here a few times in the last few years, they theme the floors by continent or something, have stayed in africa and arabia, nice rooms - slightly quirky, central location and very close to the subway too.

We arrived Saturday afternoon parked in the underfloor car park which is very easy to find made our way to reception and had a very warm welcome (I don't speak French so they spoke to me very well in English) told us were our rooms were and our bags were taken to the. Lift by the porter, our room was large and very well equipped and decor was contemporary with lots of colour.
We went and had a drink at the bar and again the staff were very helpful
There was lots if things we had to fit in whilst we were in marseille so we asked at the reception the best way to get to all the different places and they again were very helpful and wrote on maps the best way to go they made a reservation at la peron ( which was excellent ).
In the morning when we came down for breakfast i was surprised at the amount of choice there was for breakfast, if there is anyone disappointed with the breakfast you won't a much better breakfast than that anywhere. All in all our stay at this hotel for us was perfect. Thank you to the staff of new hotel

While the location was great, finding it was a real hassle . The major road works in the area make it almost impossible to access by car or even to find . The lack of car parking would also be a major problem for some . However staff were very friendly and helpful . A big plus was the availability of the internet . Room was good and having a small lounge as part of the room was wonderful . A very competent hotel

Despite the difficulties to find the hotel due to the works in city center, we are happy to hear you had a nice stay in our hotel. We hope to welcome you when constructions will be finished and you can discover a new city center.

We stayed in a superior double room and it was huge, expecially by European standards. It has an entry way and then a sitting area and then the bedroom area. Our room had a Juliet balconey on to the front of the hotel. Our friends got the standard room and it was much smaller, better to spring the little extra and have the great rooms. The hotel has a reasonable size elevator that fits 2 people and their luggage. The hotel is easy to find, we came on the train, switched to the metro and popped up next to the tourist information office and the hotel is basically across the street from the merry-go-round and tourist office. The hotel is clean and the staff courteous. You are within easy walking distance to many restaurants and cafes. Metro is close as well as buses. Seems to be a safe area. The noise level is what one would expect of a downtown hotel, we slept fine, the windows shut out all normal noise. I would recommend this hotel and the price was excellent.

Room Tip: Get the superior double, it is a big difference from the standard double and well worth the money

Thank you for having posted a review! We are happy to see that you had a good stay with us. The central location on the Old Port is very appreciated by our guests. The area is a bit noisy cause of the works but the hotel is soundproof. Hope to see you back soon to Newhotel Vieux Port.
