“Lovely Oasis in the city.”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

I have read some good and bad reviews on this hotel yet my stay was wonderful. I really liked the Hotel I wasnt over keen on its location. It was qite away from everything but my room was clean and comfy, staff were very nice and helpful and the food was fantastic the pool was really nice aswell so overall I would say that the hotel gets top marks but its position isn't great. They do however have a hotel closer to the port and the next time I visit Marseille that is were i will stay.

Dear customer,
Thank you for your comment. We are pleased that you had a good stay even thought you found it too far from the city center. However it is very easy to reach it by bus, and the corniche Kennedy is about 5 min walking. We hope to welcome you again during your next stay in Marseille. New Hotel Bompard staff,

We stayed over a weekend at the hotel and I must stay we were very happy with our choice especially for the price we payed. The staff was very helpful especially those at the reception. The room was a good size and the facilities provided were far than enough (central heating and good-sized bathroom). Situated in a quiet residential area which was a ++ for us and it only took us approx 35 mins by walk to the town centre. If you prefer to catch a bus there are 2 buses which pass near the hotel. B'fast was enough with delicious croissants and served in a room overlooking the garden. Would definitely choose this hotel if we visit Marseille again.

Located in a very quiet residential area. Nice garden in a Mediterranean style. Rooms are clean and functional but small and not well heated. Even after adjusting the heating system to the maximum level, I was still freezing. Had to pay 2€ to use the coffee machine in the morning. At check-out, they asked for a small extra tax, it had not been included in the price. In my view I find such details a little bit annoying. This hotel is supposed to be 4-star. Nothing was screaming 4-star about it. No special services, no room service, no sauna, no spa, no gym. Overall comfort was normal, not more. While not far from the city center, it still requires a car drive or other transport to get there.

Dear customer, we are sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay in our hotel. Did you inform the reception desk about the heater? For sure we could have helped you out and if the problem was really unfixable we could have provided you an other room. The coffee machine is part of the mini bar list, the rate is on it in every rooms, that's why it was charged on your bill, the city tax is never included in the rates and is an extra on the room price, as in most hotels. Our room service is working everyday during restaurant opening which is from 7 am to 10 pm. Our garden, free carpark, swimming pool and the quiet area are some special services that you will hardly find in other hotels in Marseille. We really hope that you would give an other try to our hotel, maybe during spring or summer time, so you could enjoy all our services. Whishing you a Happy New Year, Best regards

The hotel is designed around a courtyard with a lovely garden. Breakfast was fresh fruit, steed fruit, lovely yoghurt and breads, cheese etc. - much variety and designed to either sit down or eat on the go. The dinner and room service menu were the same I.e a set menu with either 1-2 courses. This means that one can't have just a small sandwich or salad for dinner, and I would suggest that the hotel changes that.

All staff were friendly, efficient, helpful and courteous - going the extra mile to find where I could buy soap, directing the taxi driver etc.

Rooms are small but impeccably clean with lovely Hermes bath products and bed linen to sink into.

The hotel is a short walk down to the promenade where restaurants are, and also close to the World bank, CMI etc offices.

From the airport once can get a bus to the train station €8.00 and then a taxi to the hotel €20.00

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the parking lot

Good service, clean, and pleasant staff. Somewhat remote from the center of town (whihc is annoying for tourists), close to bus stop for visit to downtown, remote from restaurants, Sometimes erratic WIFI which mostly did work fine. Taxis to and from airport exp[ensive, so if you want to save $$ take bus to town and then mover to taxi...

Room Tip: Prices vary from one day tot he other... strategize!!

Dear customer, thank you for your comment. Our hotel is in a residantial area and that what our customers usually like. But you can easily reach the Vieux Port with the bus next door. Hoping to welcome you during your next visit in Marseille.

Our first impression of this hotel when driving up to it was not too good, as it is on a very narrow side street and they are doing some renovation work. However, on entering the courtyard this quickly changed. The hotel is a lovely collection of new and old buildings with a beautiful garden and pool area in the courtyard. The room was spacious and clean. We ate in the hotel restaurant and had some of the nicest food we had in France, with a waiter who was very informative about the city and the local cuisine. Another bonus was free on site car parking. I would reccomend this hotel easily.

We stayed here for a long weekend in July to celebrate a birthday. The location isn't optimal but the cheapness and ease of parking (right next door with a special area for hotel guests) made it ideal if you have a car. It was maybe 20 minutes walk downhill to the centre with an excellent, frequent and cheap bus route back almost to the door (EUR 1.50) which took 5 minutes. Service in the hotel was ok, staff were enthousiastic but could have done with more training. It was raining heavily so we asked to borrow an umbrella - we were told to ask the concierge who stood all of 2 metre from the reception... The umbrella was a small one clearly left behind by another guest and yet we still had to leave our card key behind - not in itself a problem but when you return soaked to the skin (it really was a small umbrella for two) you want to get to your room fast, not wait at reception. On the other hand checkout at 5.00 in the morning waan't a problem and the receptionist got us out of the car park when I managed to lose the parking ticket.
The room was a little disappointing - nice balcony but with a view of a side street. I asked if there was something with a view and was told the side street was better than the front i.e., quieter. Maybe unreasonable but we had expected a view over the harbour not a view of a tower block. On the subject of quiet - there seemed to be a concert going on. At first we thought it was a really noisy neighbour (noise rattled between buildings) but finally worked it out. It was too noisy to sit outside and could be heard in the room even with the window shut. It can happen but a warning from reception would have been nice. Happily it was only two days.
In all not a bad hotel, better training and more attention to detail could move it up to being a good one
