“Perfect location, great hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 13, 2012

After traveling throughout France with our 10 & 11 boys, we found this hotel to be a perfect place to slow down, catch our breathe, and feel a bit pampered. It was the nicest of our trip (and the most expensive) but it had the feel of an apartment with a big queen-sized bed with a sitting are a and balcony over the old port, a nice big bathroom with a tub and shower, and the kids had their own room with two twin beds. Marseille was our time to explore the beach and slow down for a couple of days, which we did well. We were right on the port and even though the entire walkway was under construction as they expand and replace the pedestrian areas, it was still a nice place to be.

Easy to get to boat trips, the ferry to the beach, and and endless selection of incredible restaurants. Inside, we enjoyed the spacious master bedroom, the private balcony with views that were breathtaking, waking up to the views across the harbor, the towel warmer, and a nice big bathub. Four thumbs up.

The Residence has a great location looking down on the port and across to the church on the mountain opposite.Smallish rooms but wella ppointed. Ask for a room on the 7th, it has a balcony and if you are not out in the evning you can open the door and hear the buskers entertaining the strip of restaurants below.
Difficult access by car with nowhere to pull up outside. You can find space to pull up in the road at the rear but you will be very lucky to find a parking spot. The reception has a locked rear door facing onto this street behing and a bell; but it seems the receptionist has to walk from reception to open it for you.
Nice breakfast sat outside in hotel's own cafe, street level at the front, at a competitive price, actually cheaper than eating in a dedicated cafe.
Very handy for some restaurants and the Panier old quarter, also the free ferry shuttle across the harbour to the main restaurant area.
I would stay there again.

Room Tip: 7th floor with balcony, 2 seats and table outside.

Natacha, the Head Housekeeper fixed our shower on a Friday night while we were dining out + left a note in a gift basket so we can be upgraded the next day. We were.

Eric the receptionist upgraded us + find a cab to drive us to the bottom of the Calanque. He booked a restaurant. He is perfect + looks like a gentleman.
We stayed three nights. What a pleasure to go home every night to our little retreat on suite 401.
Excellent free wifi
View on Virgin Mary is exquisite and –in 2013- when construction is over, the vieux port should look amazing!
We will definitely come back!

Room Tip: Second floor has larger wood deck terrasse Higher floors have smaller concrete balcony but better v...

It looks exactly like the pictures-amazing! We had a room on the 6th floor. When we arrived, we asked to be on a higher floor so that we could enjoy the view, and we were upgraded to a larger room, on the 6th floor. Because of the Vieux Port construction project, the hotel is now dealing with difficulties for those guests arriving with a car. We knew about the construction, and asked for arrival instructions. We were instructed to come to the back door and ring the bell. We were given an address to enter in our GPS. This worked; the staff came quickly to the back door to take our luggage, as we held up about 8 cars. But it worked. Our departure was the same, we held up traffic at the front of the hotel, while the staff put our luggage n the car. The construction is distracting, but we wanted to see the view of the View Port, which was amazing and wonderful from our 6th floor room.

We had a bedroom, bath with toilet, and smaller bedroom with closets. The bathtub was extremely high, and difficult to enter and exit, with no grab bars. Bathing was a team effort! We had a small balcony with yes- an amazing view!

We ate breakfast in the hotel. It was a good breakfast with good coffee, but they had trouble keeping the eggs warm, and one morning ran out of eggs. We were not charged for our breakfast that morning.

We parked in a city garage; there are several that are close enough.

We stayed twice within two weeks at this hotel. It is nicely located in the downtown area of the old port and offered us easy access to many attractions and restaurants. The staff were very solicitous, helpful and friendly. The accommodations were comfortable and the room had a great view of the old harbor. The decor of the hotel is a retro-artsy/funky look which is upbeat and lighthearted. The breakfast at the restaurant was delicious with a great selection of pastries, scrambled eggs, waffles with real maple syrup, etc. Good coffee too.
All the way around a good price for such an enjoyable stay.

What these other photos and reviews fail to reveal is that there is massive street construction going on in front of the hotel. You literally can not drive up to the hotel. I circled for almost an hour before parking a quarter a mile away and walking into the reception. There they gave me the very bad attitude that "I should have called". This inspite of the fact that they had both my number and email and the conditions of the booking said they would contact me if something important happened.

It didn't get better. Can you imagine a suposed five star hotel where you have to carry your own bags and park your own car? I couldn't either and canceled the reservation and left. Unless you are absolutely certain this construction is finished, I would be cautious of staying here.

This hotel is located very well right on the Vieux Port, is acceptably clean, the bed is very comfy, the staff very helpful and the bathroom has lovely toiletteries. Value wise it is as expected in a large city.
The not so positives are small, no shower curtain so we did get water everywhere when we showered and the room decor just didn't quite hit it with us. But that is personal preference rather than anything specifically wrong. The breakfast and mini bar were too expensive for us so we never availed of either. €4 for a small packet of crisps and €18 eack for breakfast!
If I were to return to Marseille would we stay here again? Yep probably.
