Full credit to the guys Running it at the time, in particular Mel and Keith , you guys were brilliant, friendly helpful and a real credit to any Hostel.

Hostel was run and worked well, cleaning up your own dishes etc was a breeze, very familyish friendly atmosphere at the time we stayed there and have made life long friends I am sure! Beautiful views nearby and easy too get too, Lots of food around nearby and a delicious bakery just 20m from the entrance! Free breaky if you want and a fridge/kitchen to store food and cook when needed. Supermarkets nearby as well.

Comfortable beds and a great small hostel for anyone! Cheers for the stay!

I stayed for one night in a six dorm bed room. The staff was super friendly, and the atmosphere was really good. Everything is modern; living room, kitchen and furniture are pretty new. There is free breakfast for everyone. Highly recommended!!

I only stayed two nights in Hello Marseille Hostel, but I enjoyed it fully!

This place is a perfectly renovated old house in the middle of the city, directly at the Old Port. Everything is modern, there is a nice kitchen, FREE breakfast for everyone, bright and comfortable bedrooms, modern showers, a wonderful staff, everything is clean - just perfect!

I arrived on Marseille Saint Charles and found the hostel very easy - the metro goes there in five minutes and walking takes about 15 Minutes. The Old Port is very nice to see, there are boat tours, many restaurants, shopping streets, etc.

The only bad thing to mention is the location on the third floor without elevator - but everyone is eager to help you there and it is definetely worth it!

I never saw a hostel so nicely decorated and so clean - If you can, go there and try for yourself!

My partner and I stayed here for 1 night. We shared a double bed in the girl's 6 bed dorm room with had an ensuite shower room. When we stayed, there was only 1 toilet for everyone to share in the whole hostel - i think there was about 17 of us plus staff.
The staff was very friendly, playing guitar, games and answering any questions anyone had. The location was a short walk to restaurants and the port area.
We made the mistake of getting a taxi from the airport after a long flight and ended up paying 75euros! There is a bus service that runs in to Marseille for about 10euros.

Room Tip: If you are travelling as a couple, ask for the double bed in the girl's dorm.

We really enjoyed our stay here! Good location, quite clean, free towels, free breakfast (donations gratefully accepted), huge luggage lockers (although in our room several were broken), great staff that knew you by name - made us feel safe and at home. The hostel always had lots going on (trips offered, going hiking together, meals, drinking, etc.)

The downside was that there was only 1 toilet for the whole hostel (about 20+ people) so you always had to wait in line. There were only 2 showers, one of which was in the "Girl" room (so I don't know if guys could actually use it). Also, the common room was really loud in the evenings, but usually quieted down by 12 or 1.

I'd definitely recommend this place to young travelers looking to get the backpacking experience... but go into it knowing you won't have much quiet or privacy (or showers!)

Hello Marseille is the most welcoming hostel I have ever stayed in. It deserves all the great reviews that I read before choosing it! I was travelling alone and only staying one night on my way to somewhere else, but I wish I'd been able to stay longer, and will definitely go back if I get the chance. From the moment I arrived, it was like going to stay at a friend's house - everyone was friendly, both staff and other guests, and the atmosphere was great. The rooms were small but the beds good, and there were big lockers which is something I found lacking in some other hostels in France.
The staff cooked a big dinner which they also offered to the guests who were around at that point too, which saved me going out to buy food! It was a really lovely gesture which made me feel at home. Everyone hangs out in the huge lounge area, which has a big TV, music system, bookcase, sofas, beanbags.... It's a great place to meet people or just to read, use your laptop etc.
A word of advice, however: This is a great hostel for people who want a fun, sociable experience in Marseille. If you are looking for a hotel, this is not it. Some hostels now have more hotel-like facilities, but this is a very authentic back-packer type hostel. That said, it is clean and tidy, the staff are knowledgeable and helpful, and the value for money is unbeatable. I personally did not have problems with noise, but I can imagine that this could be an issue if someone wanted to go to sleep early.
Overall, a great place for the young and young-at-heart looking for a fun and welcoming hostel.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hello Marseille Hostel is located in a safe area in the very center of Marseille, the "Vieux Port". Our HostelHello Marseille is a brand new concept in town. We opened May 13rd 2010 in fully renovated facilities within a charming typical 19th century Haussmanian building (marble floor, high ceiling with nice mouldings, large rooms). Note: Beware, we are a backpackers hostel ...On the third floor, no lift. So to our great regret, our hostel is unfortunately not convenient for - disabled persons or persons with limited physical abilities - minors under 18, even if travelling with elders. ... more   less
