“Great Hotel”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

We had a very comfortable corner room with views over Marseille which was especially attractive at night with view of the floodlit Notre-Dame de Garde church. Breakfast was excellent. Special praise must go to the reception staff. When our flight was cancelled (air controllers' strike) they were very helpful in helping us rebook another flight.

We stayed one night at this hotel after finishing a week on the Canal du Midi & then starting a cruise. The location was perfect, we (hubby, myself & our 3 elderly parents)had caught the train from Narbonne to Gare St Charles & the hotel was literally straight across the road.
We had a terrace view room which was lovely to sit & have a few afternoon drinks but not very private as we had a couple of blocks of apartments looking straight onto the terrace.
The room was clean, a good size, the bathroom also good except for a shower curtain which was due to be cleaned/replaced.
Our aircon didn't work & as it was a terrace room we had a door to the terrace instead of a window & we didn't feel safe leaving the door open at night.
Brekky is included at this hotel & the breakfast room was very crowded & we felt not well laid out but breakfast it self was adequate.
As we only stayed one night we didnt see much of the surrounding area but hubby went across to the train station after 7pm looking for a shop & felt very uneasy. It isn't the best area but as in all big cities you just need to be sensible about where & at what time you go out.
Overall we felt it was good value for money & just what you are after in a transit hotel, comfy bed, clean & breakfast included.

Room Tip: Ask for a terrace view room

We stayed two nights in this hotel. Very conveniently located just across the street from the huge train station - Gare St. Charles. We took the shuttle bus (6 euros) from the airport which was easy and quick. Marseilles is a city that is "grubby" in my husband's words. This hotel is in a neighborhood that is improving, with decent restaurants and stores. It was a 15 minute walk down to the harbor.
Hotel lobby is newer and clean. There is a wonderful outdoor terrace just off the lobby where you can have drinks (served from the check-in counter) or just hang out in the shade/sunshine.
Easy check-in with helpful people who understood English. No problems with on-line reservation being honored.
We had requested an upper floor, bayview room and were happily surprised with room #708. It was spacious by European standards - as big as some rooms we've had in the USA. We had a great view to the Mediterranean, the Vieux Port and the Marseille cathedral. The bathroom was of good size. The king size bed was very welcoming after our long travel day, and comfy each night. Air conditioning worked well. Very little door thunking or corridor noise during the night. There is a lot of traffic noise during the day, blocked when the windows were closed.
Breakfast was good - a nice selection of meats, cheeses, cereals, breads. Fruit was a bit old. Nice feature was taking your breakfast outside to the terrace, where the wi fi worked well.
NOTE THIS: We had one of the nicer rooms in the hotel. Our friends were on the train station side of the hotel and had much more noise and just a view of the station. They had booked a suite room which was simply a room the same size as ours with a queen bed and a sleeper sofa. You also need a room on the 6th, 7th or 8th floor to have a water view.

Room Tip: Rooms on floors 6, 7 and 8 on the waterfront side will have the best views. Lower floors were musty...

Carolyn M,

Thank you for your recent stay with us.
We are really happy to read your nice review.
Regardng your friend's room, we would like to explain that we do not have any SUITE at the hotel.
All our rooms have the same size. The only differences are the type of beds ( double /triple/quadruple) and the type of view ( over the sea or over the street)
We do hope to welcome you again very soon

Spent two nights, very clean, staff very good, polite and helpful. The rooms were basic but spacious. large comfortable bed, shower was adequate, no bath. It was clean and the housekeeping were very efficient. It looks new and hasn't got any signs of wear. Walked down to the old port one night through the Arabic quarter which the hotel is on the edge of. Some might find it intimidating. Nice little bar that was reasonable and willing to serve us on our return in the wee hours.
Breakfast , which appears to be included with all rates, is continental (fruit , cereal, croissants, fruit juice). No hot food
Nice basic hotel.

Room Tip: Specify that you want non smoking if its the case, don't assume that all rooms are smoke free,

This was the most unbearable night we have experienced anywhere on any holiday. The water pipes screamed at a defeaning high pitched level every time anyone in our half of the hotel turned on a tap, flushed the toilet or had a shower. After about 3 hours I was ready to leave and catch a night train just to get away from it. At 1am in the morning half of the hotel was in an uproar and someone temporarily reduced the noise so I could get some sleep with ear plugs in. We left Marseille very weary on an earlier train than scheduled.
I would never stay there again.

We stayed here for 9 nights. We chose this hotel partially because there was affordable parking space available (12 euro/day). It's located opposite the train station, were you can take the bus or metro into the old centre. Train stations usually aren't the nicest places in a city, and Marseille is no exception, but the hotel seemed to have good security systems. The breakfast is continental, but there is plenty of choice. Our room was spacious and clean. The overall look of the hotel is modern and clean. Nothing to complain about!

We are platinum members and stayed on points! We have a beautiful corner room on the executive floor. Great view of Notre Dame on the hill. Do your research this is about 3 yrs. old and next to the St. Charles train station. Easy walk. Our room and we found this also in Nice at the Holiday Inn they really limit your supply of towels only 2 and no shampoo or lotion at all. They do have hand soap that is in containers like on the cruise ship in the shower and at the sink. Management at ck in was Awsome. They spoke great English and were very helpful. We went to dinner, and on return our room was hot. No air on! Hum!!!!! My husband said it was not working so I called the front desk, and they turned it back on full blast for me. Said that if a window is opened that there is a sensor that automatically turns off the air. We ckd and sure enough one of the windows was ajar. Probably the maid did not shut it all the way. It was very windy when we went to dinner. But they were so kind and had it on ASAP! Would we come back here? You betcha.
