My husband and I stayed at the hotel for two nights. When we got there, nobody was at the reception desk, and nobody answered my ring. I went back to where my husband was impatiently waiting, double-parked, and we called on our cellphone. Wlliam, one of the two owners, was on the premises, but hadn't heard me ring.
Reception is up a flight of stairs, and the rooms can be either on that floor or one or two floors above that. There is no elevator.
Our (Superior) room was very basic. It was very small, with a double bed, a single bed, a small table and one chair. We asked for, and received an additional chair. There was a small refrgerator with a freezer section and a small, wall-mounted flat-screen television set (all programs in French). The hotel has free wi-fi. There was a ceiling fan. If the window is open, you can hear street noise. Lighting could have been better.
The bathroom had a toilet, sink, and tub with hand-held shower, which could not be attacked to the wall. No amenities other than two small bars of soap were provided. There was a rack to hang clothes and a set of hanging shelves. There was daily maid service which included changing towels, making up the bed and emptying the trash.
The hotel has only one parkng spot, so, f you need one, make sure to reserve it wth your room reservation. Someone else had it when we arrived, but William went wth my husband in the car and they found a free spot about a block away. (Most of the parking in the area is hourly with a fee.)
William couldn't have been more helpful. He carried our bags up the stars (and down again when we left). He is an extremely pleasant young man and speaks English.
The hotel is in a very convenent location, near a Metro station and just over a klometer from the Vieux Port. There is a market on the street every morning from 8:00 until noon, where all sorts of things are sold, from clothing to housewares to produce and fresh fish.
We did not get the optional breakfast, the typically Frech breakfast of juice, bread and spreads, croissant and hot beverage, but ate in our room.
All in all, if you want a clean, convenient place to stay in Marseille at a very reasonable price, Hotel Lutia is the place for you (but not if you have problems climbing stairs).
