Bed & Breakfast Un Mas en Ville

This is a lovely place to stay in a location that allows easy access to the Vieux-Port. It is in a trendy area, with plenty of restaurants nearby. We found the members of staff very friendly and helpful- on our last day we were able to leave our bags in reception after we had checked out. We had a great time staying here and would definitely recommend it!

It's a real villa with its swimmimg pool, jacuzzi and patio near the center of Marseille. The swimming pool in the shady yard has nice design and is a real salvation for the time of heat. In September we used it twice a day. You can get walking to the Old Port of the town and the railway station. But the hotel wasn't clean enough. Some of the rooms are so small, that you can hardly open your suitcases. The breakfast should to be more variable, but the web of the hotel honestly communicates that they have only bread, butter, jam and coffee.

Room Tip: You should have in mind that the rooms can be very very small.

We stayed at the Mas en Ville for 1 night (luckily it was only 1 night!) in the room for 5. Although the room offers a large space and is convenient as we could all fit,the only charming thing is its rustic look. Overall, the stay at the Mas en Ville was uncomfortable. The mattresses were old and and bumpy. The sheets were not really clean and really old. The bathroom is wooden and old. The worse part was the dust and moisture smell in the room, which triggered allergies. There are no parking facilities, but there is a secured parking a couple of blocks away. Although the B&B is far from the center and the main attractions of the city, there is a subway station not far. I would personally not return to the Mas en Ville.

Normally my husband and I don't stay in B&Bs but our options were limited in Marseille on that day. So we tried to compensate by booking the family suite. ( It was just the 2 of us ). The location is in a somewhat rough neighborhood but reasonable walking distance to the Vieux Port. It doesnt have its own parking so you park in the public parking underground which was about 10 min.walk back. Our room was right by the entrance on the level floor. It was really big, with a canopy bed right by the window, a large dinette table, there was a kitchen of some sort, kinda haphazardly equipped, but functional, clothes washer and a loft with 4 or 5 twin beds set up dorm-style. The toilet is pictured on the top of this page, the professional pics. We didn't know what to make of it!. Breakfast was a little extra charge consisting of a real French petit-dejeuner. Breads, jams, yogurt and beverages. Behind the curtain in the dining area there is a jacuzzi! The pool area is very nicely done in stone and gravel.
As the caretaker (or maybe he was the owner) explained to us, this was a stone workshop before it was turned into a B&B. His name is Paul and he is a Romanian immigrant. He speaks no English, but we comunicated in our limited French. He is a gem! He seems very cold but get him talking and he is delightful. He made this unusual experience an unforgettable one for us, even though this was an overnight stay. This is a rustic farmhouse in the city as described by its French name. No TV or amenities.

Just home from our first visit to Marseille. We knew virtually nothing about the city, and my husband found this place on booking.com. The photos were promising, but you never know what you're going to find when you get there. We were more than pleasantly surprised! We travel frequently with our 3 children, staying in hotels, apartments, and all-inclusive resorts, and we all agreed this was the most beautiful and comfortable place we'd ever stayed in! Located on a tiny street that looks like it's in the middle of nowhere, you walk into an incredibly beautiful and rustic space! We had the "Trois Fontaines" room on the first floor, which included a mezzanine level with 3 single beds for our 3 boys. My husband and I shared a gorgeous canopy bed on the first floor. All the furnishings are antiques, bed linens are somewhat luxurious for a hotel room, lots of towels and facecloths, and of course, many petit bars of le savon de Marseille. The kitchenette was very well equipped, complete with an induction stove top. The fridge was stocked with 3 bowls of preserves, and there was even a washing machine. The shower had incredible pressure wish our shower at home had near as much! I could go on and on, but it's getting late!
We were able to leave our luggage in our room until we were ready to leave for our late afternoon train - the manager was so accommodating! We plan to visit Marseille for one more weekend during our stay in France, but only if we can stay here again!
