“Good location, nice, friendly”
Reviewed January 21, 2014 via mobile

This Novotel is conveniently located in the business district and only a 15 minute/1 mile walk to the port. The staff are welcoming and friendly and it has all you need.

Warm, large rooms with all the necessities. Great entertainment system

Downside -
the Internet didn't work very well. Reception kept fluctuating and I lost it a few times.
The bathroom flooded because of a badly design shower - style over practicality.

We were here on business, and everything was just great. We stayed in a room with balcony, and we were impressed at the size of the rooms, the quality and the service. The tram also stops not to far form the hotel as well - so easy to jump on/off.

Room Tip: if you are staying here - it is about 6 stops on the tram from Town, though taxis are easy to get...

Stayed here for two nights when away for work in two different rooms, one a standard room (no balcony) and another a corner suite (with balcony). Rooms are unlike any others I have stayed in and certainly not the normal "box like" hotel rooms. Everything almost ikea like with room toilets and bathroom being in a separate "pod" from the main room. Liked that a lot. Lots of space in both rooms but if you ever get a corner suite they are just so enormous that you can run laps in them.

Toilets separate from main bathroom but they have their own sink with soap. Complementary shampoo/shower gel/body butter given in shower. Plenty of towels and everything to me seemed modern and contemporary. Hairdryer in room but one of those annoying "pipes" that come out of a fixed unit in the wall rather than a proper hairdryer (why Novotel why?). Tea and coffee in room with its own tap in the room outside of the bathroom. Great table to work out should you need it. Nice lighting in room with lots of options.

No iron in room though however they have an ironing station on one of the floors with the most amazing industrialised iron you've ever seen. Definitely worth a try.

Balconies are great should you get one - only have experience of a corner room one so others may be different. However, balconies have glass doors that you can pull shut to shield yourself from the wind and the rain or open to let the sun in or cool night air.

Breakfast was a little disappointing - very European I guess with croissants, bread and nutella. Could get yoghurts too and "boil your own eggs" in a some strange device that even after 5 minutes left the eggs a little runny. Coffee from the machine there though was seriously the best I have had in a hotel breakfast for a long time!

Staff at reception were excellent - great English even though I tried my pathetic French :) Left something in my first room and when I booked again for a second night there easily found it and already had it bagged up for me (my daughter's teddy bear that she made me take, would have been a disaster if I had not recovered it).

Tram stop right outside to take you up to the Vieux Port in about 5 minutes or you can walk there in about 15 minutes. From memory about 1 euro one way on the tram but very convenient location. Walked to the Vieux Port as well and felt safe as a man, but I think single females should be careful along the route along Rue De La Republique (take the tram).

Had a fitness room with running machines that I looked in upon but did not use.

Enjoyed my stay here, would give it five stars if there was more choice at breakfast but maybe that is being picky.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room at the front of the hotel - they are frankly enormous.

Provided that I did not know the concept of this line of "hotels", where you can have a "suite" instead of a room, I have to admit that I was positive impressed by the architectural aspects, the furnishing and functionality of the room and of its wide space, enthusiastic of the "bathroom-corner"; a little bit les impressed by some details of the rooms showing small attention (big stains in the moquette, cigarette burns and other markings on the furnitures) not peculiar of this hotel's category. I was definitely disappointed by the few nd poor services, particularly the offer of breakfast, something in-between "self service" and fusion cuisine. No own parking but separate from the structure, few indications to reach the hotels. Well, nice suite after all but in general not completely positive.

I had a 4 night stay here for work. I booked a colleague and myself in at this hotel since I liked the sound of the spacious rooms. They are indeed big and even had a balcony (although it is winter so not exactly the best weather to enjoy it). The look is getting dated, but you can still tell this is a new building. My room was clean and had a very comfortable bed. Wifi is free and unlimited, although a little on the slow side.
The area where the hotel is located is new and still under construction. It seems like an office and business area so it is rather quiet at night. However, it is a short walk to the metro and there is a tram outside the door if you want to visit elsewhere. My colleague and I even walked down to the Old Port area and it only took 20 minutes.
In general, I would say this is an ok hotel. The price was quite good for what you get, but you can see how it saves money: no restaurant on site but only ready-made and microwave meals, breakfast (14 Euros) is an ok variety, but all served with plastic plates and prepared containers for easy clean up, lack of staff in the morning so not a quick checkout. It lacks a bit of personality, but that's what you can expect from a big chain. However, for a work trip such as mine, this was perfectly adequate and I can recommend this place if you like roomy hotels and just need a bed to sleep in rather than an interesting neighbourhood.

My family of 3 (with a 1yr old baby) were originally slated to stay for 2 nights but ended up extending it because we loved the hotel and were very comfortable. The hotel was very clean, modern and appealing and the room itself was fantastic and spacious with very modern and sleek decor. We've stayed at countless hotels and I rank this one very high. Most hotels nickel & dime you but many amenities were free - minibar, movies (wide selection) internet (you could surf on the flat screen tv with a wireless keyboard). The room came with a divider you can pull out separate the large space for extra privacy with a child. A separate tub and shower and even the toilet was in a separate area/small room. When we booked the hotel, we didn't get it with breakfast because of some reviews. We tried it with the extra night we booked and it was great, definitely worth the extra 15 euros and there aren't many places to eat closeby anyways & especially not cheap so it is definitely worth it.

In terms of location, it's a short (10min) hop on the tram (which is right in front of the hotel) or the subway (which is a 5min walk, and then <5min train ride) to get to Vieux Port. And seeing how busy and sometimes shady the center was we were quite happy to be a bit away from there. The view from the room overlooked a half complete construction site (but not ugly though) with the water/ocean right to the side. The shape/orientation of the building does not give a full on water view. Our 1yr old daughter loved running around the big room and balcony. The hotel staff was simply GREAT! at the front desk, my girl knocked over a cup of pens and the receptionists simply smiled and laughed it off, and then went over to cabinet and pulled out a little teddy bear toy and gave her. Throughout they were very helpful, always smiling and courteous. You rarely find good customer service like this. We would stay again in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: Rooms in the middle (vertically) of the building actually give you the best 'view'. And the...
