“Great Place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2014

Really enjoyed my quick stay in this Hotel. Location is superb, and my lovely refurbished single room had a great view over the port. Room was quiet. Reception and all the girls were very helpful booking taxis, advice etc.

Of course the famous La Caravelle Bar (restaurant at lunchtime) is good fun, simple menu I had Salmon which was excellent. Very bohemian spot to have a drink in the evening, my friends loved it. Slight mould in the bathroom but nothing to do with cleanliness, just needed some re grouting when they had time out of high season! Indeed the housekeeping girl was as charming as the rest of the staff.

Would recommend especially the single rooms for solo travelers, a friendly place to be if on your own. Car park Hotel de Ville very close by.

Room Tip: Higher floors may help noise but no lift.

Bellevue - the name says it all! You do, however, pay for the view: the rooms are modest for the price you pay. All perfectly clean, though; working wifi and decent shower. And nice, friendly staff at the wonderfully old-fashioned front desk. Be warned, though, that this front desk is already up one flight of stairs, and the rooms are further up.

The Caravelle bar behind the front desk is a great spot for taking an apéritif while watching the sun go down, and does ok breakfasts (€10). Plenty of other eating and drinking spots very close by: some of those on the other (Rive Neuve) side of the port have a bit more character.

A big thanks from the whole team at the hotel Belle Vue for your positive review of our hospitality, the rooms and services you enjoyed during your stay in Marseille. We're also delighted that you had an aperitif on the terrace of la Caravelle bar and restaurant, which enjoys unobstructed views of the old port and Notre Dame de la Garde basilica. We look forward to seeing you again for another unforgettable sunset!

Just the basics, but with a magnificent view and wonderful ambience and service. Breakfast on the terrasse could not be more pleasant, nor the staff more helpful. We would be eager to return on our next trip to Marseille.

An excellent hotel. Exceptional view on the old port, located at wallking distance from the new museumMUCEM.Friendly staff and cosy room. Call directly the hotel : check the phonenumber on internet and call directly the hotel ask for the last minutes rates : important discount...

To avoid : the restaurant in the hotel for lunch or diner :awfull cold plate platter ( industrial quality, ). however Have a drink on the terrace at night time .... enjoy the view

A couple of hundred meters asmall and nice restaurant : BOBOLIVO

2 tricks : if you want a boat ride (not the tourist ride) take the boats (townhall network transportation) located on the harbour ask for l'estaque or pointe rouge.... 3 euros one way unbeatable...

For a special treat (exceptionnal breakfast around 28 euros) go to the intercontinental. located at 150m from your hotel, this luxury hotel is an exceptionnal 19th century historical building( hotel dieu former hospital). Walk in are allowed upon availability : champagne, cold cuts, pasteries, cheese, etc

Room Tip: mid range rooms are nice and cosy but small

The whole team at hotel Belle Vue would like to thank you for your review which shows just how useful our blog is for tourists like you. We use it to suggest itineraries around Marseille, pleasant walks off the beaten track and setting sail on the ferry across to Frioul islands for €3. Once you've done that, we highly recommend coming back to la Caravelle bar and restaurant to sip an aperitif. However, we feel obliged to inform you that the food we serve is made using fresh and seasonal produce. Why not come and try it out for lunch next time you stay? Our chef puts a great deal of care into creating his dishes, which are very popular, like his aioli, stew and tarte tatin with a generous dollop of farm fresh.

A very good mix of traditional French hotel with modern facilities. Great location with marvellous views of the old port and out to Notre Dame de la Garde. Comfortable rooms, very peasant bar/restaurant on first floor, helpful, friendly staff and good wifi. Breakfast limited but adequate - distracted by the view anyway.

I travel 2-4 times a year to marseille for work since 5 years. With this hotel I would like to try something new.

But I felt very disappointed at the end some pros and cons:

+ nice staff
- 155€ for a small room with cheap furniture.
- you will be charged 2,80€ per Cookie that are on the table inside your Hotel, 3,70€ per 0,33 ml Evian bottle on same table in the middle of your room. (in other Hotels for free). Please understand this is not in a Minibar it is directly on the table.
- moldy Silicone in the bathroom.
- dust at the footbars and at the lockers.
- hairdrayer with short cabel and no socket in range bathroom socket is only for shavers.
+ 10Euro Breakfeast is ok, you will get 1x Schoko Croissant and 1x Baguette. + coffee etc.
+ directly at the Vieux Port
- stairs they will not bring anything to your room.
- floor full of laundry backs in front of your room.

So I will use another Hotel next time. You have to decide by urself I mean it's not to bad but unloved and for the Service much to expensive.

Room Tip: room with view on vieux port.

Thank you from the whole team at the hotel Belle Vue for your review. We were surprised to read your comment about the level of comfort of our rooms, as they were fully renovated a few months ago. As you mentioned, we provide drinks and snacks as other hotels do - particularly in the UK and US - in mini bars. At breakfast time, the hotel Belle Vue team serves up a reasonably-priced 'full French breakfast' at la Caravelle bar and restaurant on the first floor, where you enjoyed the unobstructed view of the old port and Notre Dame de la Garde basilica.

A unique old world hotel of wonderful character right on the Old Port waterfront. We have been coming here regularly for 5 years. The Bar/restaurant should be made a UNESCO World Heritage Site - never change it !!!

The whole team here at hotel Belle Vue was delighted to hear about your positive review. Thank you for your continued trust in us and above all for ranking us as one of your favourite hotels in the whole world. We do everything we can to keep our hotel authentic - we've preserved the old stairs that withstood the bombings of World War II, making them dear to the hearts of the people of Marseille. Our renovated rooms have also been re-styled to give a cosy feel and keep the hotel feeling true to itself.
