Owner description: Built under Emperor Augustus in the 1st century AD, the Roman Theatre of Orange experienced a real rebirth in 2003, transporting visitors back to Imperial Rome. The new tour and the free audioguide in seven languages tell visitors about the shows and social life in the Provencal city during Roman times. In the new projection room, the film, with computer-generated images and reconstructions of shows, retraces the history of the Roman Theatre of Orange.

So well preserved and the audio tour gives loads of information on the history of the theatre. There are also some special audio visual films that show the recent history of the theatre from the early 1900's....

“Step back to Roman Times”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

If you are into Roman history or the theatre this is the place to go.
Very detailed information was provided by head set and it was possible to imagine yourself at a performance in bygone times if you visited their feature on Ghosts of the theatre.

“Amazing Theatre”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

We visited here as part of a Tour of Provence, we had lots of time to look around which is what you need, this theatre is absolutely amazing, the shear size is wonderful and you could only imagine the atmosphere back in the day. We sat on the stairs just examining the stage, we had the audio earphones which point you in the right direction to wander through the interior. They have set up some small theatres within where films are running. It is definitely worth a visit a real eye opener.

“Great place to spend an afternoon”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

My wife and I were truly awe struck when presented with this fantastic piece of ancient history. We were happy to pay our €9 each and watch a number of Roman battle simulations.

The staff are incredibly helpful and watching the children be educated in Roman fighting techniques was great fun.

Really good value for money when you consider the cost gets you into the Museum across the road as well. Both incude an audio tour which is very well done.
