We stayed here for 3 nights. The hosts are all friendly and the bar downstairs has a nice authentic feel about it. The position of the hotel is great, close to the bus stop, 5 mins walk to the train and beach. The rooms could do with an upgrade but for what you pay you can't complain. We had a room to the rear but the front rooms are much better. Wi fi worked well in the bar which was a good time to talk to Betty and have a beer.
what more do you need.

Room Tip: Front room

My wife and I, with our two boys age 6 and 9, really enjoyed staying at the La Regence. We had to take 2 double rooms to fit us but the rooms were nice.

The pro's
While over the top of a sports bar and facing a main street, the noise wasn't bad and didn't bother us.
It is directly across from a nice kid's park with lots of play structures to burn up energy.
Walkable (8min) to many of the restaurants near the harbor.
About a 15 minute walk to the beach (somewhat topless but mostly not, our kids didn't seem to notice).
Directly across from a great bakery and small grocery store. This made breakfast and snacks very easy.
The young man (son of the owner) who runs the hotel is great. Lots of great suggestions, painted our kids faces for the France v England Game, very helpful.

Con's
No wireless in the rooms but free wireless in the bar. A little incovenient.
The rooms are showing a bit of age but not too badly.
Very hard to find long term parking. We wanted to park our car and walk everywhere but had to come back every 3 hours to feed the meter during the main part of the day.
Only cash, no credit cards except for paypal for the deposit.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel. For the price we paid, we got more than we expected.

I have visited this area numerous times and have stayed at La Regence every time. It offers an ideal hotel/bar located in Villefranche, a beautiful seaside town sandwiched between Nice and Monaco. With Villefranche you get a location that is on the beach but away from the often stressful city environment of Nice. If you have personal transport like a car or scooter, you can go off for the day and explore the surrounding areas at your leisure, beautiful locations like Èze, Beaulieu, Menton, Monaco, Ste. Agnes, Sospel, etc. Otherwise, transport via bus or train for as little as one Euro can get you where you need to go easily. Alternatively, the town has a large beach and a beautiful waterfront for those who just want some sun.

Can't recommend this place enough for its value, location, and friendly owners. The hotel rooms are clean and sheets/towels changed daily. An ideal location for couples, friends, families, with a great bar downstairs that is essentially the centre of the town for locals to meet and chat. Food is available at a reastaurant next door and a pizzeria two doors over, the prices for both are also cheaper than what you'd pay at the waterfront places, but still delicious nonetheless.

Looking at previous reviews, I can also add that the WiFi was working fine in both in the rooms and in the bar.

Room Tip: Try to book early if you are planning on visiting during the high season. Rooms go quick during the summer

The location of La Regence is decent. Everywhere you could want to walk in Villefranche is downhill, therefore it's a 10-15 minute uphill walk every time you want to return to the hotel, this could get tiring. The room itself was decent. As other reviewers have said, there is a multi speed fan on the ceiling which helps make the stay more bearable considering the heat! The room itself is in need of a refurbishment, tired decor all round. We also thought that we would have wifi access in the room as it was specified on the website. They told us that they were having problems with wifi on the second floor and we'd only be able to access it in the bar, this was disappointing as we were depending on wifi for travel purposes at this stage of our trip. I also do not understand why the hotel does not use their separate entrances for bar and hotel? They told us that when the bar is open you must walk through it to the door at the back leading into the hotel part. In my opinion this is senseless as there is a main door round the side, why make guests walk through a bar every time they want to return to their rooms? Prices in the bar are very steep (like everywhere on the riviera) so don't depend on spending too much time there! Overall, for 60 euro a night, the value is excellent considering the inflated accommodation prices in the area.

We stayed here in June for the location which was excellent. We booked this knowing it would be cheap and clean but the towels were really pass their use by date and the bathroom had mould on the ceiling. Overall the room itself was tidy but I think its time for a refurb for this well located place!
