In Mid-September 2013 my wife and I ate at La Belle Etoile three times and had only wonderful experiences. The regional food is superb and beautifully presented and the staff is professional and very friendly.
La Belle Etoile (meaning, in English, “The Beautiful Canvas”) has been open for only three or four months, but is already efficiently run and clearly one of the best restaurants in Villefranche-sur-mer. Located in the center of the Old Town of Villefranche, it is only a short distance (albeit uphill) from the waterfront. Plenty of parking can be found by the Gare Maritime and the restaurant is only a short walk from the SNCF train station.
The Trilogie de chair de crabe, mangue et noix de Saint Jacques à la plancha en verrine (trilogy of crab, mango and scallops) is a great starter; absolutely superb.
The Filet de Boeuf Charolais is finely presented in a generous portion grilled to taste with a truffle-spiced purée of potatoes on the side. Chef Didier Hostein hits this right on the head.
Fondant au chocolat parfumé au Whiskey is a perfect desert.
La Belle Etoile is highly recommended.
