Hotel le Versailles
Reviewed July 21, 2013

Just back from a week long stay here with two teenage kids.Having read a few reviews on here we were a little worried but our fears faded as we checked in. We had a family room on the top floor with a balcony overlooking the pool and more importantly the beautiful bay. Every morning we woke to sunshine shining in the windows and the faraway sounds of what ever cruise ship had moored overnight in the bay. This is a beautiful picturesque part of the world. The hotel has a wonderful restaurant that features in the michelin guide. The hotel was spotless again contrary to some reports on here. The staff were very friendly and had a great sense of humour. (Something you dont get everywhere in France). Downside? Well breakfast is a bit expensive and dont order anything poolside.....that works out very expensive. Also the soundproofing is poor in the bedrooms(So be quiet if you head for a siesta!) Overall we had a fantastic time here and would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Select one with a balcony...the views are fantastic and they are brighter

We just came back from a 3 night stay at Le Versailles. We were impressed by the fantastic view from the hotel (incl. our balcony) and the chic looking room (must have been refurbished as the other couple we travelled together with had a much more ordinary looking room). The service was ok, but nothing special. Breakfast was not included, so we chose to buy breakfast at one of the local bakeries and enjoy it at our balcony. Located along the main road from Nice to Villefranche, the hotel seemed to be easily accessible by car. Also very short distance to the bus stop for easy travel to Nice and Monaco.

Room Tip: Ask for a newly refurbished room as these looks much nicer than the older ones.

The view of the sea from your room & balcony is what makes this hotel. It is conveniently located at a bus stop. We were given a room next to the stairwell and it was quite noisy. Make sure you ask for a room on the upper floors for the lower floors do not have the same views.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at this Hotel. For the cost of the room 180.00 euro per night I thought it was expensive for room only. The best thing about the Hotel is the view from the rooms and terrace.
The decor is in need of updating and the rooms weren't as clean as they should be. The bedding and towels were clean.

Room Tip: All rooms have a similar view of the bay at the back of the hotel. The rooms on the lower floors ha...

We stayed at the Hotel le Versailles for 2 nights at the end of April. Our room was one below the main level and was always clean, the beds were very comfortable and the view from our balcony was amazing. There were fireworks over the bay our second night, which was a lovely added bonus. We had a car and parking was provided free which was also a definite plus. There is a bus stop within steps from the hotel which will take you right into the centre of Nice which is a very short 10-15 minute ride depending on traffic, or right in to Monaco. Very, very convenient. I have read reviews that the staff were rude but this was not the case at all for us, in fact it was the opposite - everyone was extremely helpful and very friendly. There is a family-type atmosphere to the hotel, and the restaurant also offers fantastic views of the bay. We ate at the restaurant one night and the food was good, but a bit pricey. We didn't choose the breakfast option. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel at all, as it is located in a beautiful place and offers very easy access to both Nice and Monaco - a great base to stay at.

Room Tip: First floor rooms have the best views

i recently stayed two nights in this hotel. the rooms were fine, the view was great. the staff were horrible. The lady on reception was incredibly rude and disdainful. The barman was even worse, I was overcharged by 10 euro by the barman one night (I was charged 35 euro [instead of 25 euro] for a 500ml bottle of rose wine), and unfortunately didn't realise it until the following morning when I checked my change. I'm pretty sure that this was not a mistake.

The breakfast was poor, and at 17eur per person was overpriced. When I asked for some water the attendant took a half filled carafe that another table had finished with, then he topped it up and handed it to me. nice.

I found that 90% of the staff here had a really bad attitude - although funnily enough this attitude seemed to be reserved for english/irish guests. I would never come back to this hotel.

In general, my opinion is that Villefranche seems to have a lack of quality hotels, and the hotels in the area seem happy to let the views and the weather attract customers for them, hotel owners obviously believe that they do not need to be polite or provide a good service to attract guests as the locality does that job for them.

I recently stayed for a few days at Le Versailles, attracted by the beautiful views on the website. And beautiful they were ! The stay was not a complete disaster but it fell very short of my expectations. The room though spacious was very poorly decorated, an extraordinary number of mismatched chairs crowded the whole place from terraces, breakfast area, bar etc, the sound insulation was very poor and the friendly staff was in need of professional training. The place was a little shabby but not at all chic !
Some good points : very nice food although pricey, a pleasantly situated pool and of course the view.
The hotel is a little off-centre and this is well worth remembering if you are not found of walking up and down slopes and cliff-staircases to get to the seaside and the restaurants.
