“Perfection and magical!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2011

I fell in love with Villedranche the second I visited and couldn't bring myself to leave. So I extende my stay and wish to return this summer. The location is marvelous and with the balcony view, I could see the fireworks display in front of me, with the best seat in the house! Also, one day I saw Elton John with his crew.... This place is quaint and not for the typical tourist. This is for someone that enjoys the finer, yet understated things in life. Loved, loved, love this place!!!

Located by a quiant and pretty fishing harbour fringed by lovely restaurants. If you have dreamt of the perfect small hotel in the French Riviera this is it. Not cheap, but worth every Euro (shame I can't say Franc, it would seem so fitting).

My husband attends a convention in Cannes in the fall and I’ve been fortunate to be able to travel with him since 2000. I finally convinced him to travel several days before the start of his meeting, and we spent a night in Villefranche at the Hotel Welcome. A few hours after our arrival, he said, “We’re doing this again…and for longer.” We arrived after a JFK/NCE flight, and as we dozed in and out in our state of jetlag and awoke to our balcony views, we’d think, “This has to a mural.” The views are simply that pristine. When I woke up in the very late evening and found my husband on the balcony reading (lighted E reader!), I knew we were in the right place. The Hotel Welcome is place where you can be in the atmosphere of the town’s harbor, but in your own space.

This is a boutique hotel in an historic building, so don’t expect large rooms. With the balconies and views, you won’t care. The hallway runs along the backside of the building, so every room has a balcony and the corner rooms have two. One end of the building faces a square and the town’s church, the other has views Cap Farret, and the rooms in between face the harbor. We booked a corner, “Superior” room and we were on one of the upper floors. Imagining myself in any of the hotel’s other rooms, however, I don’t think we would have been disappointed with any of them. This is hotel where “location, location, location” applies, and if quaint and picturesque is what you want, you will be happy with Villefranche and the Hotel Welcome. Our room was impeccably clean, the beds were comfortable, and our bathroom was updated and had a tub with a stand up shower (something I look for in hotels in France!).

Good people manage this hotel, and I would characterize their attentiveness as genuine and always in good cheer. Most flights from the east coast of the US arrive at a time that is not best for a hotel check in, but the manager did everything he could to accommodate us and kept us updated on when we might be able to get into our room. The staff spoke very good English, and they were always pleasant and helpful. In other words, we were very happy travelers at the Hotel Welcome, and we’re going back next year for a longer stay.

Room Tip: The best views will be on the top floors facing Cap Farret, but you won't be disappointed with a...

This place was perfect!!! My wife and took a fun trip to the South of France and after much research here on TripAdvisor, we chose the Welcome Hotel as our anchor. This hotel was amazing!! The balconies overlooking the harbor were wonderful. It really does not get much more picturesque than that!! Plus, the town of Villefranche Sur Mer was quaint and beautiful. Loved it!!!

When visiting the South of France, be sure to check out the town of Eze. Unbelievable views and amazing city/architecture.

Back to the Welcome Hotel. Stay here if you can!!!! Definitely worth it (and we have rather discriminating tastes). I still think back on that trip and smile.

Room Tip: Ask for the top floor ... amazing views.

After visiting Villefranche so many times we eventually got to stay at The Welcome for a short break in October.

This is by far the best hotel experience we have had, the room was fabulous with terrific views across the bay of Villefranche toward Cap Ferrat. The staff were attentive and helpful without being imposing and always genuinely seemed pleased to engage in conversation. The manager was particularly helpful with arranging local visits and train times.

Our room was tastefully decorated with two balconies and the room was quiet with a very nice bathroom and everything was exceptionally clean.

For me the icing on the cake was the history attached to the hotel, particularly the references to Jean Cocteau that abound throughout the building.

This was our fourth visit to the Hotel Welcome. The location is perfect, overlooking the harbor and the Cote d'Azur. We got room 42, which is a corner room with 2 balconies! Every afternoon we would go to the Casino Market, get some fresh melon and other fruit, a bottle of local rose, and have "Happy Hour" on one of our balconies overlooking Villefranche and the harbor. It's so much fun to watch the happenings in the town below. Last year we saw a wedding on the dock just in front of our hotel. The bride in full length gown got into a small boat along with her husband. She was wearing 6 inch heels, and the logistics of getting into the boat with those heels were so entertaining to watch!
I digress...the rooms here are large and very nicely decorated. The beds are really so comfortable that it's hard to leave this hotel! Bathrooms are nicely done and large enough to maneuver in as well. Olivier at the front desk gave us beach mats, towels, and and umbrella for our beach run every day. (Villefranche is the best beach around, with a public no charge beach that has sand instead of rocks.) The front desk folks, Edwina and Olivier, are very helpful for making various reservations and suggestions on where to eat, spots to visit in the area, etc. Trains are so convenient here there really is no need for a car. Nice, Beaulieu, Eze, Monaco, Italy, are all just a few train stops apart. Some of the best restaurants in the area, like La Mer Germaine, and Le Garcon, and Le Cosmo, are all just steps away from the Hotel Welcome.
The only thing not outstanding at Hotel Welcome is the breakfast. It's 15 euros per person for canned fruit and ham-like stuff. One would do better by going to around the corner to the place with yellow awnings next to the Cosmo restaurant for morning espresso, chocolate croissant, orange juice, and yogurt for only 6 euros per person.

Room Tip: Definitely go for a room with balcony facing the sea. It's worth the extra money.

Dear Madam, dear Sir,

We would like to thank you for choosing the Welcome Hotel **** for your stay and for being so kind to write a comment about us on Tripadvisor. Your valued opinion on all our services is a precious help in order to always improve the way we welcome our hosts.

Regarding the breakfast buffet served in our veranda, it is unfortunate that you were not suggested any yoghurt or fruits. Along with all sorts of warm & cold brekfast foods, we offer some fruit yoghurts or plain yoghurts on display everyday at the buffet as well as an assortment of fresh fruits : water melon, melon, apples, grapes, oranges... and others according to season.

In the future, we will make sure that these products are displayed well enough and available to all our guests during the breakfast service.

We have had fresh fruit salad on our buffet in the past, unfortunately as a family hotel, we opted for an organic (bio) canned fruit salad to avoid waisting so much remainders.

The Welcome Hotel has been devoted to obtain a certain standard of quality along with a concern about our environment and sustainable developpment and therefore avoiding waiste is one of our concerns.
However we will always wish to serve you the best way and it is with pleasure that we will always attempt to provide anything you may request even if not provided on our buffet. SHould you wish a fresh fruit salad, we will prepare it for you in time as requested.

Name it : we'll do it ! :)

You may check the below link (unfortunately only in french) which explains different sorts of certifications regarding global ecological responsibilities, one of which we are working on and aim at obtaining in the near future.

We look forward to welcoming you again with pleasure.
Kind regards,

This was a second visit to the Welcome. We had room 33 which was next to the larger corner room we had last year. I was initially disappointed as the room seemed much smaller and darker than ours last year. However the shabby chic paintwork was much better done and the toilet was in a much better position than the other room so actually worked quite well. To be honest I wasn't in the room a great deal having left my son at home so free to beach and explore to my hears content. The view was as fantastic as ever.
One of the nice things about Villefranche is the way many of the staff seem to stay in their jobs (and they are much more professional then anything you get in the UK). Hence the hotel flows well and you know what to expect. Breakfast could have done with nicer hot food (flabby bacon, wet eggs and sweaty sausage) but the cold ham and salami were scrummy.
Once you've done the beach and cute boutiques I recommend catching the train to Italy. Very easy to get to (end of the line, about 35 mins from VFSM) and costs E7 standard fare. Amazing market Friday and the only place I found with a toy shop (although Nice has a Toys r us I was told).
We ate at Palmiers in the square a lot as the food was lovely and not overly expensive (13.50 for a large pot of moules with frites). You get a harbour view but not the smelly traffic of the ones right on the harbour side.
