Seafood menu excellent, dessert okay (restaurant next door better) ...service average, had to ask for basic things to be done.

My husband and I just returned from two weeks in Ville Franche-sur-mer. Our most disappointing and most expensive meal was at this restaurant. For a mere 37 Euros (!), I ordered a lobster salad for lunch. Voila! Out came a plate filled with mixed greens and10 tiny pieces of lobster. My husband had the bouillebaisse, even more expensive, and even more disappointing. It had a strong fish taste and little else. Yes, the view of the harbor is beautiful from this restaurant, as it is from several of the other more reasonably priced and better restaurants along the water like Les Corsaires.

We had not reserved a table. All tables outside were taken.

Then the head waiter decided to offer us a table at the sea-side, a perfect location, 2 meters from the sea,

The food was really excellent, and the service good and very friendly.

Not cheap, but absolutely worth it.

We booked a table the day before for 8.30 pm. You cannot book the water's edge tables it is first come first served there. Nonetheless the outside tables are good. This is an expensive restaurant but the ingredients are amazing. We decided on the mini Bouillabaisse at 52 euros each. I had wrongly thought the large Bouillabaisse (min 2 people) was 76 euros for 2 but that is the price each so 152 euros for 2. I would have liked that but the wait for either Bouillabaisse is over an hour while they cook it fresh. With the smaller one we could have a starter while we waited. John had the half cooked tuna which also had dressed salad leaves and wasabi as well as soy sauce. it looked amazing and he said it was brilliant. I had the melon and ham - very good flavours.

Before the starter arrived we chose a Broilly red wine (32 euro) and for some reason the gentleman on the table next to us took the wine from the waiter and proceeded to be our sommelier for a short while with all the accompanying descriptions of the wine. All very amusing, although he did drip the wine on John's napkin!

Whilst we waited we watched the important customers arriving and having their prestigious cars driven away to be parked. It was like a Motor Show with every amazing car you can think of turning up one by one.

After an expected long wait the bouillabaisse duly arrived and it was excellent. The soup was a really intense flavour and the fish/seafood was excellent. The soup was topped up once some of the fish had been eaten so there was then room for the small toasts and rouilly and gruyere cheese. Amazing flavour soaking into the bread from the soup.

We could not then manage a desert, tempting though that was.

The waiter was friendly, excellent English and attentive without overdoing it. The downside was the total cost of 175 euros. Nonetheless it was an experience. I would go again for a special meal and probably choose the 3 course set meal at about 45 euros each. But just this once I really wanted the famous bouillabaisse and am glad I had it.

We looked at a few of the dining options on this beautiful dining strip, we were pleased with what we got. Service was good, seafood delicious but the curry was a knockout.
