“Well worth a Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2014

This without doubt was the highlight of my holiday. What a pleasure to be in the presence of such imagination, understanding and genius in such an intimate space. The Stations of the Cross were truly amazing and deeply moving. The commentary by the guide was very illuminating. If you have the time do visit the Matisse Museum in Nice and go the section relating to the Chapelle in Vence.Matisse's drawings/working methods are very revealing,People with greater insight have compared it to the Sistine Chapel and I for one would agree.

“a real gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2014

Having seen the Matisse exhibition in London and visited his house in Nice this was well worth a visit.

The town itself is fairly bland there is a good supermarket in town but most of the shops close early on a Saturday and so do many of the restaurants.

So we had to wait for the church to open but the supermarket does some snack for the wait.

The guide was very informative the tours are in English or France and a show of hands decided whihc lanaguage wins.

The windows are lovely and you do get to see the vestments he designed as well.

Well worth a visit if you are a Matisse fan.

“Petite, but perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2014

If you want to see the wonderful simplicity of Matisse in all its glory, this is the place. Only a small chapel with a mini-museum attached, but it perfectly demonstrates how totally ahead of his time the artist was.

“Quel Disappointment!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2014 via mobile

After feeling welcomed throughout the south of France at over 25 museums, many free (and ALL churches), I thought $6 for this experience was a rip! No handouts or information. No photos. A 10-minute talk in the Chapelle, a walk through a hallway filled with posters of other Matisse exhibits, and a small postcard/bookstore. Goodbye. No views. No gardens. (From the outside they looked enticing). Several attendants reminded me that this is "privee", so not run for the benefit of guests, but for profits only. I felt it.
I don't mind paying for a good experience, but even E$6 was too much for a bad one. Go, and they'll probably say "no" to you too.
Matisse's work saved this from being a zero, but even he would hate what it's become.

“A must for art lovers in Vence”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014

The Chapel of the Rosary is a must for any art lover visiting Vence, or even Nice or Cannes. It is a peaceful and inspiring place which gives a great insight into Matisse's last years in Vence. Cost 6Euros for entry, which is well worth it, and includes a talk in English. Beautiful place.
