“stunning museum in the basement”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

Seeing the chapel was special since Matisse created the entire place as a reward for the nurse who helped him after his operation who then became a nun. The surprise was the museum in the basement with vestments Matisse designed for the priests. Stunning.

“Chapelle du Rosaire is not Accessible”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

My wife in a wheelchair and I went to the chapel for Sunday mass in September. We found it to be inaccessible.

The entrance to the chapel from the street is at the top of the structure and the chapel floor is down a flight of stairs. There appeared to be a door at floor level in the back, but the person handing out the mass information indicated no access. Maybe if we had seen the priest, he would have been more accommodating

I couldn't find an information on accessibility ahead of time, so we took a chance. I went down the stairs just for a look. I looked interesting in a subtle kind of way; its a relatively small chapel.

“Simple and unusual”
Reviewed October 17, 2012

A trip to this unusual chapel was one of the highlights of our holiday in the region. Simple and serene inside, with black and white biblical scene sketches and some of Matisse's recognisable templates featured in the stained glass windows. Keep an eye out for it on your way through Vence.

“You have to like Matisse”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

The stained glass is blue and yellow, and the drawings on the walls are black on bare white. There are also photos, sketches and wonderfully creative vestments Matisse designed for the priests. I love Matisse and thought it was worthwhile. But don't expect drop dead multicolored stained glass. It's a reasonable walk from old Vence.

“A jewel of a chapel”
Reviewed September 12, 2012

Fascinating and joyful chapel where everything was designed by Matisse, from windows to tiles to altar and church vestments. The little museum has preparatory drawings by Matisse which help you to understand the scale of the project.
