“Fine Dining in the French Style”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2012

This restaurant provides the old French atmosphere, the fine attention to details in the cuisine, and the earnest service of the chef's wife who really seems to want the diners to feel as though they are guests in her home. Each dish was perfect. The service was impeccable. Overall, i felt as though the quality of the restaurant really was superior to the quality of the tourists eating there. If you are seeking an authentic old-world Michelin quality meal, this is the place for you.

“New and keen!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2012

This man and wife team have rejuvenated Lou Cigalon, which used to have a Michelin star and they deserve to get a star again based on the service, food and value we have received the last two times we have visited. Fabulous effort, outstanding cuisine and a very warm welcome. Madame speaks excellent English and Monsieur is the jovial occupant of the open kitchen (we liked this) in a small and intimate restaurant at the top of the village which is fortunately air conditioned. Go!

“Excellent, good value and friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2012

Yes, this was once something else, but now it is something new. The new is an excellent restaurant which deserves to succeed, superb food and at very fair prices, we would expect to pay 50-100% more for this in London or Paris.
They are eager to please and we shall return regularly now we have discovered it.

“Just can't match its past”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2012

This was my favourite restaurant ever ..... until it went bust after the chef, Alain Parodi, won his Michelin star.

I suspect that it trades on the reviews from the past owners which I think is a tad out of order.

It's really not bad. Solid cooking and staff who are desperate to please.

Sorry

“Well worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2011

Ok, it is time to stop crying about the disappearance of Alain Parodi. He is gone, and so is his star. The old Lou Cigalon was a special place, but clearly the cost of staffing a restaurant to maintain his Michelin star drove him into bankruptcy.

The new owners have been in business since summer 2010 and, to be honest, probably should have changed the name of the place. It is really no longer Lou Cigalon. But, what it is is quite good in its own right. Owned by a husband/wife (Maman et Pere) team (he cooks, she serves) the new owners provide a meal that is well prepared and even a bit innovative. We had Duck and Cod and both were delicious. Though, the duck might have benefited from a little more caramelization. The entrée was a duo of bacalao - Morue (dried cod) and Salmon. It was much lighter than the traditional potato & cream based bacalao and really delicious. Desert was a lovely bread pudding (a gateau Breton) of prunes.

The service was friendly, but not intrusive, and the room remains exactly as it was before, charming and comfortable.

In summary, while no longer a 1 star Gourmand experience, this is a delicious, above average, and very fairly priced (especially at lunch) respite from the usual tourist oriented fare that abounds in Valbonne.
