“Nice hotel but not budget”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2012

The hotel is located in the nice hills area of Valbonne. The rooms are modern and equipped with a mini bar and climatisation a flat tv and a boiler for the coffee. The swimming pool is not big and the kids are very spoiled and ruin the atmosphere with their continuos jumps in the water even if it shoul be not allowed since every guest has the right for a rest. The guests are mainly French and from Belgium. English is spoken by the reception, very kind and professional. The room superior for 3 is really small for 3 adults it would have been necessary a bit more space, but it was sufficient since most of the day we were outside on the beaches of Antibes that is really close and beautiful. Nice sandy beaches are there and all the area is clean and well organised. The breakfast was 15 euro a person and was expensive since close there are carrefours and restaurants and bars where to have a decent breakfast for much less. Globally I would recommend the hotel and the place for two adults maximum by room.

Nice family hotel well situated for trips. We stayed there with two kids and really like Novotels family friendly approach.

We have stayed there for just 2 nights. Rooms were fine and clean. You can use free wifi in rooms (provided by Orange - so first you need to somehow "register" with Orange, but it costs nothing, they just ask you for name and e-mail - this actually I don't like, but it was the only way to have an Internet..)
Quiet and peaceful area, but far from the sea - far if you think of having a fast jump to the beach, by foot. There is nothing around, just small parks.
Breakfast was great, with small croissants, pains au chocolat, juices, fresh fruits (at this time with seasonal fruits such as cherries and strawberries) but also pancakes, eggs, cheese etc. whatever kind of breakfast you prefer.
We had a dinner there as well, it was fine, not really exceptional.
You have a kettle in the room so it's possible to have a tea or coffee whenever you want.

We've stayed here twice now, in 2011 & 2012 for 7 nights. I can say that most of the staff are very helpful and friendly, they've always been very good to us, a very good team. We drive from UK so one of the best things is the hassle free parking. It's a business area so at weekends and after hours it's nice and quiet and you can be assured of a nice quiet nights sleep. The rooms are spacious, clean and fairly soundproofed but you'll still hear the odd thump and bang by other less considerate guests. The TV's were old and dated but during our stay they were renewed to new flat panel units with HD picture, could be more channels though but enough to keep you going and learn some French! As we use the car to discover the area travelling around was not a problem for us but if you don't drive or don't want to then Taxi bills will hit you hard, it's about 5-6miles from the centre of Antibes and the coastline. After our recent stay in 2012 we are now wondering if we will stay here again as one big problem at this hotel is Ants, yes those dreaded creepy crawlies! in 2011 when we checked into our fist room there were ants all over the bathroom so they changed the room for us and it was fine (but worrying). In 2012 we didn't have a room problem but at breakfast the ants were all over the food, pretty much every day this was a problem so it does not seem to me to be a one off problem. They really need to fix the ant infestation problem as it's not a nice feeling for staying guests in a so called 4 star hotel. Also there are parts of this hotel that look very outdated such as the windows, they seem to be crumbling away and could do with renewing along with a good sand down and lick of paint to most exterior walls/surfaces.

Overall it has been a good experience with staff always willing to sort problems out and good location for drivers and a fairly quiet night but we are wondering if things are slipping away from our recent observations during our stay in June 2012.

Room Tip: The rooms are pretty much all the same in the sense of size, but watch out some only have a shower m...

Thank you to have shared your satisfaction about our staff and hotel. We regret that you had a problem concerning the ants. As the hotel is situated in a pine forest area, there are lots of advantages (calm and quiet hotel in a business city). But there is some inconvenience which we try to take care the maximum. We again apologize and we hope you will come back to Novotel Sophia Antipolis.

I have spent short holidays at this place at five or six occasions within the last five years. My observations refer to all my stays, not just my last trip in May:
The location of the hotel is superb for exploring the Cote, but also for the more immediate surroundings (Antibes, Mougins, St Paul, Valbonne etc.). I also particularly like the garden and pool area.
These were the main reasons for coming back.
Rooms, breakfast, and parking are of typical Novotel standard, which is very fine for me.

What I find annoying, however, are three things in particular:
The reception staff never offer their greetings, not even in the morning when the lobby his empty.
On busy mornings when breakfast is particularly chaotic, the staff retreats and becomes invisible. In five years I have never asked for my room number at breakfast. I suppose, most people never pay for their breakfast.
When you sit down in the garden in the afternoon , it is almost impossible to find someone who would be prepared to serve a drink. (The last two observations apply to almost all Novotel hotels in France.)
For these reasons, and with great regret, next time I am going to look for another hotel in the vicinity. This place could be so much better with al little more effort from its staff. These things are really annoying - basically, as I have said, it's a good place (as hotels go.)

Room Tip: Make sure the room has view of the garden.
