Lovely collection of art and sculptures dotted in the garden. Bit of a trek to get there, but worth it.

Take bus 400 from Avenue de Verdun about 200 metres up from the Le Meridien Hotel which is on the Promenade des Anglais – you can’t use your mutli-ticket on this bus to Vence or St Paul de Vence – 1.50 EU each way, pay on the bus (be prepared to stand in the bus for 50 minutes as it can get very busy in summer)

There is a bus-stop called Fondation Maeght – the next stop is about 300 metres away up a hill and is called St Paul Village

If you get off at the Fondation Maeght stop, walk up the road towards the Fondation for about 5 minutes and when you get to the 1st car park area on the left, look for an unmarked bit of track heading up into the woods. This will save you several minutes of walking on the road. Follow the track which is easy to see for about 100 metres and you will come out at a gate on a road (or very close by) and the Fondation is just to the left

If you get off at the St Paul Village stop and after exploring the village want to go the Fondation, DO NOT take the steep road marked Fondation Maeght – this is a very long way round and is really only for cars. Walk back down the hill to the Fondation Maeght bus-stop and follow the directions above (especially if it is a hot day)

It’s a wonderful gallery and gardens (15 EU entrance fee as of August 2013)

A short 20 minute walk, from Saint- Paul -de -Vence is a very modern art Nivana. It houses many of the Riviera's most famous artists under one roof. The museum is a pleasant exhibition space, with rooms easily accessed and intelligently curated.
There is a sweep of lawn strewn with big sculptures and bending pine trees. Visit the tranquil chapel designed by Georges Braque. You will find the museum's low profile, allowing the art to take center stage.
If you like Miro,Fernend Leger,Braque and Chagall this place is for you.The back has Goudi-esque sculptures and whispy works by Giacometti.
Tip.....Team this up with your visit to Saint-Paul and Vence.

We love modern art and were looking forward to seeing this museum. It was simply not worth the trip. The Miro and Miro-hangers-on were neither interesting nor great art. (If you want a wonderful Miro museum, go to Barcelona.)
We were lucky that half the museum was closed (reduced price, too). The building (Jose Luis Sert) is very interesting and very successful as a display space. Pity they didn't have better things to put in it.

Art isn't really my thing, but there is something for everybody at the Maeght Foundation. The building is air conditioned and so it's a great way to pass a couple of hours out of the heat.
