We only had one day to go out for a short visit from Nice. Out Receptionist in the Hotel (Grand hotel Florence) had been perfect in recommending restaurants and sights in in Nice and she said we should go here - very glad we did. Did not have a car so took the Bus 1 Euro each way for a 1.10 trip - bargain but you would not do the ride for the scenery until the last 10 mins or so it is rather urban not rural.
Still get of the bus walk up towards the Gate of this Walled Town and it is worth it, we arrived at arround 10.30 - Coffe by the Boule Park on the way in and left at 3.30 having treated ourselves to an excellent (if not cheap) lunch at Le tilleul just inside the gate. Inforamtion Office just inside the gate - maps and things - Main windy cobbled street mainly art galleries and boutiques - wide range of goods and prices one Bronze was E46,000
- if you walk right through the centre (the main street) to the Far End, fantastic views turn left and walk all the way back on the ramparts a totally different experience (just an old walled town - no shops very few people - great contrast
My guess is this would NOT be a fun place on a weekend especially in High Season. Is NOT easy walking, wheel chair friendly through the centre.

If you appreciate art and enjoy unique places...do yourself a favor and set aside at least 2 hours to view this hidden treasure!!! St. Paul De Vence is one of the most beautiful and unique places you will witness...you wouldn't think that much would be in such a small village but trust me you will be flattered! Stop and check out Rose's Diner for a quick bite to eat near the chapel!

St. Paul De Vence is one of the most beautiful places I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. It really lives up to the great reviews I read before going. We have a rented car so we chose to drive. The drive up the mountain is really lovely. Unfortunately for us, it has been snowing here for three days and the weather has been really cold and wet. On the upside, the overcast sky made for beautiful photographs of this amazing little city. Most of the shops were closed, but some were open. Be prepared to do a lot of walking and wear sensible shoes and clothing. I am sure this place is crowded and overrun with tourists in the warmer months, busy family pretty much had the run of the place in late February.

This is the most beautiful old, small, walled town. Cars acan only go around the edge and so have to be small. The little streets and very uppy-downy and have wonderful shops and art galleries on either side. As Chagall, Magritte and various other famous artists have lived or worked there at times, the galleries are full of the most wonderful things. Some gallery owners are happy to explain their stuff and have you take photos, others are not so nice, but the town is soooooo beautiful, and with such lovely views, that we went twice. It's much nicer than Vence.
