“Another nice hill top village in Provence”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

As other reviewers have said, this is a nice hill top village with good views of surrounding areas and many tourist shops especially ones selling art. It's a much flatter and larger version of Eze; not as charming as Eze we feel. We were lucky to be here on a Saturday which was a market day and benefited from greater variety and colour the temporary market stalls provided. Still worth a couple of hours of walking around or sitting down sipping coffee or a drink even if you are not shopping. We were there during winter and it was not really very crowded and really pleasant.

“Fabulous hill top village”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

The 360 degree views from the top of the town walls are stunning. This village is immaculately preserved but in high summer is overrun with tourists which spoils it rather. So best out of season in May/June or September/October. Many cafes and restaurants, interesting churches, delightfully cobbled streets. Most of the shops are artist galleries and tourist shops. Can be rather twee. It's neighbouring village of Vence is very pleasant and not so touristy.

Beautiful but lacking options for the traveller on a tight budget. Excellent restaurants and art. The service of the tourist information was very helpful and friendly.

“A very charismatic village - perfect for a day trip!”
Reviewed December 1, 2012

After visiting many towns around Nice, including Monaco and Antibes, I read about the charms of St. Paul de Vence in Lonely Planet. Since the public bus from Nice to St. Paul is only 1 euro and takes about an hour, I decided to check it out, and was thrilled about the decision.

St. Paul de Vence is large enough to not get bored wandering its alleyways, but small enough to feel like you have a sense of the place from a mere day trip. The architecture is in perfect condition and the village has lots of art galleries (in fact, that's what is is known for). There are very picturesque graveyards that overlook the hills and sea.

When arriving by bus, after exploring the town, make sure to walk about 5-10 minutes down the street by which the bus arrives from Nice to capture great photographs of the entire village.

“Arty and touristy but worth a day trip”
Reviewed November 25, 2012

Wonderful old town f windy lane ways each full of tiny shops selling all sorts of art, sculptures, clothes and food. It s clearly focused solely on tourists but I loved looking at all the art even tho I didn't buy anything. It's a great days walking around and there s a cemetarty with the best view over the cote Azur. Give t a go...
