“Disappointing - poor value for money”
Reviewed September 22, 2009

Small hotel wedged against a busy noisy road. Claustrophobic room. Paintwork a bit chipped internally and weathered outside in places. Peeling wallpaper in hallway opposite our room. Bathroom a joke - it really is small and crampt and not separate - there was only a curtain. Postage stamp sized pool and private beach. We were unlucky with bad weather and hence the alleged view was absent and there was little the hotel could do to redeem the situation. Lobby flooded. With the bad weather there was really little to do as the hotel had no facilities - room felt horribly crampt and depressing and the small guests lounge area had insufficient seating for more than a few guests. We were not the only guests trying to leave early and the manager became quite hostile and really unpleasant to deal with, whch was most distressing and stressful when he started shouting at us. Contenental breakfast at 20 Euros per head was very overpriced for what we were given . Aside from the offensive manager, the other staff were very charming and polite and spoke good English. Poor value. Could not recommend and would never return.

This was a one night stop over for us as we wanted to do a day trip to St Tropez. The hotel was very easy to find, located right on the main street coming into St Maxim. There was lots of shaded parking which was also a nice surprise.

The staff were polite and welcoming, and mostly spoke good English.

We probably had the best room in the house with a massive balcony with superb views over the Gulf of St Tropez and the infinity pool. The room itself was a little bit small, sparsely but tastefully decorated. The toilet was no bigger than a broom cupboard, but the separate shower room was more a better size. There was a very funny 'modesty curtain' instead of a door in front of the shower room, which wouldn't leave much to the imagination if you were really trying to use it for some privacy!

The restaurant is beautifully located with round windows showcasing the views across the bay. The food is also excellent, with a variety of different set menus to choose from. The staff were attentive but not overly fussy.

The journey to St Tropez is a lovely 20 minute sail across the Gulf from St Maxime, and was an easy 15 minute walk from the hotel to the dock.

The infinity pool is lovely, even if the edges are a bit rough when you have bare feet. The real gripe that I would have is we had been staying longer is that the 'private beach' is a major bit of poetic licence. It is no more than an adult size sand box with a few deck chairs. There is a jetty which also has some deck chairs, but there is no where to swim as the water is just plain rocky - excellent for snorkelling. We walked past the public beach at St Maxim which looked hideous - not nice sand and bodies packed like sardines, and we felt grateful that we had spent most of our holiday at the resort of Bandol, further along the coast with a much nicer beach.

We found the hotel expensive and not really good value for money, but that is to be expected in a resort like this in the middle of July. Beware the mini bar - a whopping 6 euros for a bottle of water!

Security may also be a bit on an issue at this hotel, given it's proximity to the main road. There was a note in our room which told us to ensure that we locked our windows and doors to prevent theft, which we did. It was a pity as it would have been lovely to have woken up to the sound of the sea in the morning with an open window, but c'est la vie.

Overall, a satisfactory stop over, but we would not have stayed for longer.

We stayed here for 5 days with our children (aged 6 and 4). They loved Ste Maxime and there is a sandy beach very close to the hotel towards the centre of the resort. We took the hotel apartment which is nothing special. There were some problems. The plumbing is not great and the water pressure never came to much so the shower was feeble. There was a bad smell in the room which came and went and the bed would be short if you were over 5 foot 9 inches. Having said that we loved it. The rooms are an OK size but each has a sea view balcony. The larger of the two is enormous and looks over the sea, st maxime and st tropez as well as the hotel swimming pool (which is designed to feel as if it merges with the sea). You feel as if you are on a liner with the waves crashing below you and the most amazing night time views across the by in both directions. The hotel has a tiny rocky beach access to the sea with wonderful rock pools full of tiny crabs. Breakfast is good but we did not eat in the restaurant. The staff are great and very well trained....The fabric of the hotel is a bit dodgy for the price, our appartment needed a coat of paint and some basic repairs. Having said that it was perfect for us and the children loved it. It is just 5 minutes walk from the main resort.
