Owner description: It took Baroness Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild, one of the most original women on the French Riviera, seven years to build one of the most beautiful sites on the Côte d’Azur. An enlightened art enthusiast who travelled back and forth across France and Europe, Béatrice de Rothschild built up an incomparable and eclectic collection of masterpieces: priceless Sèvres and Vincennes porcelain, works by Fragonard, paintings by the masters (Boucher, Carpaccio, Tiepolo, etc.), Louis XVI furniture, and so on.

“Unbelievable views, gardens and Home!”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

This Villa is remarkable. It is beautifully preserved and they serve lunch and High Tea in the Tea Room. The gardens are remarkable. There are 7 different styles, Rose; Japanese; Provencal; Formal; Exotic; Italian. You get great ideas to try at home. While we were there a young couple came through with their wedding party. What a fantastic garden to have your photos taken in, a real treat!

This is the best, most beautiful house and garden I have ever visited anywhere. The house is pink on the outside with 18th century furniture and Pompeii style paintings on the walls and ceilings. The gardens are large, divided into 9 different sections - Spanish, Japanese etc. In the middle is a fountain and waterfall. The fountain plays to music every 20 minutes. I wish I had recorded this on video instead of just taking a photo of it. The views from the villa and gardens out across the sea are also wonderful.

“A beautiful Villa and Gardens”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

The Villa and Gardens is obviously a popular attraction as we had to wait for an available parking space. If you are travelling by car, it is advisable to ask if you can wait for available on site parking as there are few alternatives in this area. For your Eu 12.50 you receive a very good audio commentary and access to both the Villa and the gardens.

The Villa itself is charming, fully furnished and contains some good collections of art, china, etc. The views from the villa of the gardens, Villa Franche and Cap Ferrat are spectacular. The gadens are well designed and feature different themed sections including French in front of the villa with a formal garden and musical fountains, Florentine, Japanese, Spanish, Sevrers, Provencal, Exotic, Stone and Rose.

A full tour taking in the villa, video and gardens will take about two hours.

“Beautiful view with a pricey ticket”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

In February of 2012 my 5 year old daughter and I went to the gardens at the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild and stayed for a surprising 3 hours. She had 0 interest in the house/museum so we spent very little time in it, as shame as I was interested but the museum area was not meant to attract kids. She was absolutely thrilled with the Japanese gardens and the musical fountains with 'dancing' water as well as the little 'temple' above the rose gardens and wanted to see several of the garden features twice.
I was disappointed that the tickets were full price as half of the gardens were undergoing renovations and it was off season. So for the full 12 euro a ticket we saw a lot of dirt and orange plastic fence; however, what was open and planted was lovely and I was pleasantly surprised at how captivated my daughter was with both the gardens and the views. She still remembers it well even after a year and a half. She still occasionally builds 'gardens' on the beach with tidy borders and large rocks with raked sand around them so I would have to give it a 5 for memorable.
After this visit I read the non-fiction book "The Hare With the Amber Eyes" which gives some biographical information on the Ephrussi family and has a little bit more information about the house. I was glad when I read the book that I had the vision of this house and property as a touchstone for the descriptions of how these families lived before the Second World War.

“Magnificent in every way”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

I loved our visit to this stunning villa and gardens, which is reached by a lovely drive through neighborhoods of homes that are also pretty spectacular. We began by touring the inside of the villa. The audio guide is a must and it is free with your admission. There are fantastic pieces once owned by Marie Antoinette in the house as well as other gorgeous pieces of art, clothing and antiques. The audio guide details the villa's construction and other quirks about Rothschild. The gardens are stunning and worth a walk through each themed one- be sure to have a camera ready. The fountains are amazing. Staff was setting up for a wedding reception which was neat to see, too. You could spend a day here but we spent a couple hours.
