Owner description: It took Baroness Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild, one of the most original women on the French Riviera, seven years to build one of the most beautiful sites on the Côte d’Azur. An enlightened art enthusiast who travelled back and forth across France and Europe, Béatrice de Rothschild built up an incomparable and eclectic collection of masterpieces: priceless Sèvres and Vincennes porcelain, works by Fragonard, paintings by the masters (Boucher, Carpaccio, Tiepolo, etc.), Louis XVI furniture, and so on.

“Gorgeous property, villa, and views”
Reviewed June 7, 2013

We visited the Villa and Gardens on the last day of a ten day trip to France, and it was the perfect way to end a trip. The gardens, views from every window of the villa, and the dancing fountains were beautiful. There is a free walking tour app you can listen to in French and English, and a perfect cafe with outdoor and indoor seating that looks like it was made for drinking rosé with the sunshine on you. You can take an inexpensive bus ride to the Villa, but beware of leaving on the last bus during rush hour in the week. It can be quite packed! A must-see!

Over the last month I have visited many chateaus and villas and what totally surprised me was the foresight that Beatrice Rothschild had when she decided to build this villa. In comparison to Villandry or Chenonceau it is hard to compare. The thought however that has gone into the layout of the gardens and the furnishing of the villa is outstanding of this remarkable woman's foresight.
The water fountains with their display to classical music is mesmerising the collection of Messen porcelain is not to be missed particularly those in display in the monkey saloon. What makes the villa stand out from all the others is the position high on a hill looking out over the sea.Beatrice Rothschild was a visionary . Don't miss the opportunity to visit this wonderful villa and gardens

“Absolutely stunning”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

What a beautiful home in a stunning location. The drive to the villa is spectacular and then the gardens and villa themselves have the most beautiful views. The gardens a wonderful to explore, all with different themes they show case what can be done. The dinning room in the villa is also a delight and set lunches / afternoon teas quite a bargain considering the setting, service and high quality of food served and do plan to eat as part of your visit.

“Worth the time”
Reviewed May 31, 2013 via mobile

You never know what a place like this is going to be like-a touristy gift shop or a great treasurer of beauty. This is a treasurer. Like many eccentric women of inherited wealth (Doris Duke, et al) Beatrice Rothchild had her quirks like doggie wedding ceremonies. But she also appreciated fine art, classic period furniture, rare china figurines and much more. The self guided tour is very well done. The gardens are nice to tour at a leisurely pace. The price of admission was well worth it but would not recommend young children or elderly due to the walking and steps.

The terrace restaurant with a bottle of Phillippe Rothchild wine topped off a very enjoyable day of touring.
