Owner description: It took Baroness Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild, one of the most original women on the French Riviera, seven years to build one of the most beautiful sites on the Côte d’Azur. An enlightened art enthusiast who travelled back and forth across France and Europe, Béatrice de Rothschild built up an incomparable and eclectic collection of masterpieces: priceless Sèvres and Vincennes porcelain, works by Fragonard, paintings by the masters (Boucher, Carpaccio, Tiepolo, etc.), Louis XVI furniture, and so on.

“An insight into a privileged life ...”
Reviewed January 9, 2013 via mobile

Mme de Rothschild led an extraordinary life as is evidenced by her villa, her extraordinary garden and the accompanying commentary. Considering it was a dull day when we visited and it was winter - yet the gardens still were magnificent; I can only imagine how absolutely stunning they would be in the heart of Spring. We love the small, intimate sites that 'CultureSpaces' operate throughout France and we purposefully seek out any site they operate.

“Incredible must see”
Reviewed January 7, 2013 via mobile

This is one of the few "must see" attractions in the local area. It's easily accessible by train, car or local buses 81 or 100. The audio tour headset, included in the admission price is really interesting. The rooms in the villa well preserved and the garden an enjoyable walk. Some guests brought a picnic lunch, others ate in the nice cafe. We had coffee and dessert in the beautiful cafe and they also have full meals. You need at least 3 hours.

“Breathtaking beauty”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

Just along the coast from Nice, the house is set in some of the loveliest gardens I have seen. The variety of styles and planting of the gardens works such that every turn offers a 'wow', and coupled with the gorgeous setting on the Riviera you are plunged into the decadence of a bygone era. Despite the summer heat and other visitors, the gardens and house are tranquil and relaxing. Listen out for the classical music that heralds the start of the fountain display (I think every 45 minutes or so in summer). Despite being with cynical late-teenagers, all were thrilled by our first visit and so we came for a second visit. Car parking is a bit tight and limited, so pick your time to avoid disappointment.

“Beauty in Winter”
Reviewed December 27, 2012 via mobile

Our purchase of Riviera Passes led us to plan our day trip to St. Jean Cap Ferrat to start with a morning visit to the Villa, though our interest always focuses on gardens. Among the first visitors of the day, we delighted in wandering through all the gardens without interference by or to anyone else, enjoying the plants themselves, their arrangements and the vistas they complemented. Luncheon the the tea room was very nice, unhurried and a good value, and the villa tour with self-paced audio guide/commentary (in several languages) completed our visit.

We suggest including this on your own Riviera itinerary at any time of year.

Where to Start! A fasinating journey back through the life of Ephrussi de Rothschild, whether you are into Architecture,History or Hoticulture. Or, if you just like to wander through Gardens. There is something for everyone at this attraction. A thouroughly wonderful day out and well worth the money.
