“Not impressed”
Reviewed September 13, 2012 via mobile

Had dinner on terrace of à recently updated square in Nice near Place Garibaldi and harbou. Sapore looked as the best bet in the area.
Offer 8 plates tapas style for €32 actually a starter of 3 plates, a piece of grilled salmon on a mash of vegetables and a piece of braised lam. Quality of ingredients were mediocre. Good bread. All in all not special.

“Excellent experience in a lovely neighbourhood”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

This small restaurant in the hippy Old Port neighbourhood of Nice proved out to be a very pleasant surprise.

The smartly set tables are in front of the small restaurant in a little place on rue Bonaparte.

The menu is an 8-course tapas menu at the price of 32 euros that changes every 15 days. The food was excellent: everything was prepared of fresh ingredients and the taste of each dish was impeccable. Also, the presentation of the dishes and service was excellent.

I will definitely recommend this restaurant for my friends for the combination of great food and great athmosphere in this lovery neighbourhood.

“Superb tapas”
Reviewed August 8, 2012

We stumbled upon this restaurant by accident, but yet it it is only 100metres away from Place Garibaldi. The restaurant has an 8 course table d'hote menu which changes every 10 days. As we were not hungry we shared 2 portions between 3 and the staff were happy to accommodate.
It was the best food that we have had in Nice and the prawns were the best that I've had in a long time.
Excellent food and I'm sorry I'm not staying longer or I would be back again.......perhaps next time.

“Tapas French Style”
Reviewed March 7, 2012

Sapore is a small restaurant, with minimalist decor, located in the rue Bonaparte just behind the harbor of Nice, and close to the Place Garibaldi. It primarily offers an 8-course tapas fixed menu for 32 euros per person, as well as a small "a la carte" offering. The menu changes every two weeks.

We were warmly greeted when we came in, and throughout the meal found the service to be friendly and efficient.

We really enjoyed the variety and quality of the food offering on the night we visited. We liked best the "chestnut soup" that was one of the appetizer courses, although the small tomato/basil tartlet and red pepper stuffed with ratatouille were also very good. The fish course was a small portion of "cabillaud" simply cooked with olive oil and served with white beans. The best "entree" dish was the small piece of beef filet with foie gras, accompanied by a gratin of squash/pumpkin. For dessert we enjoyed a nice piece of chocolate mousse cake, and a pear poached in red wine.

Even though the portions are small, the net effect of the eight courses is easily equivalent to a full meal. Where some restaurants specialize in marrying sauces with the various dishes, we thought Sapore was at its best using local ingredients and cooking them "mediterranean"-style, with lots of olive oil highlighting the taste of the food itself.

Including wine and coffee, the bill was 100 euros for two, which in our opinion is on the expensive side for a small restaurant in Nice. But Sapore offers a dining concept different enough from typical local bistros and restaurants that we thought it made the price worthwhile.
