Premiere Classe Nice - Promenade Des Anglais
Ranked #182 of 203 Hotels in Nice
Reviewed August 25, 2013

The good things about this hotel- it's very close to the airport, not even a ten minute drive and you can't hear the planes from your room. It's air conditioned, affordable and clean
The bad things about this hotel- Check in took a little while, the guy had the front desk had no idea we had a reservation, and it was very hot and stuffy. There is one lift that is very small and slow making getting to and from your room very tedious. When there are alot of people checking in with big luggage, it can take a long time just to get to your room.
The rooms were small and air conditioned but the bathroom was just ridiculous. A tiny, pink pod with a shower so small you can't wash without banging into the walls. One night we stayed there, there was a black out & it took the hotel 6 hours to get power back on. Not enjoyable at all!
There is wifi but it's only accessable downstairs at reception and there was no bottled water for sale in the vending machines.
The website makes out that the hotel is so close to the main part of Nice but it's at least an hour's walk away and you need to walk at least ten minutes to get to the ocean, not across the road as their website states.

The room we stayed in was with a broken window so we could here everything from downstairs. Beachkfast was only stale bread and jam. The only thing was they supplied free wifi although it only was able to be connected near reception.

In an ideal position on a service road at the Western end of Promenade des Anglais.
Check-in was very slow - more than 10 minutes in a very hot enclosed area with many people having to stand around.
Although opposite the end of the runway of Nice airport, the double-double glazed windows didn't let any noise in, although they also stopped any fresh air. And the air cooling unit just moved the air around, very noisily.
The airport closes down from midnight to 6am, so although I would have liked fresh air overnight, I couldn't open the inner window anyway as the handle had been removed (vandal or by intent I don't know as there was a hole where the handle should have been).
Door lock didn't appear very secure and the secondary chain didn't have a keeper so was useless.
Two lifts (each 6-8 people without luggage!) for a hotel that size meant that there was a continual throng of people standing around at reception on floor 3, and at the entrance on floor 0. And once one lift decided to jam 15cm below floor 0, then it was down to 1. Stairs were available but very little signage and it was only after queueing at reception for ages that we were told where they were (at the outer ends of the corridors).
Breakfast - yet more queueing, 10-15 minutes seemed the norm - only one member of staff and continually having to replenish stocks - one coffee machine failed leaving just 1. There were 4 orange juice dispensers but they emptied during breakfast so it was down to the same member of staff to replenish these, all the time the queues (and frustrations) getting longer.
Perhaps the queueing was built into the design as at no time were there more than 1 or 2 spare tables.

Room Tip: Not on floor 3 (reception and vending so noisy)

I will give the hotel this: it has parking available (and not too expensive), it is close to the airport, which is good if you need to catch and early-morning flight, and it is not too expensive. Also, you cannot hear the planes, which makes for a better sleep.

It is far from all the action of the Promenade, so you are better off paying a bit more to stay closer to the touristy part. The rooms are small, which I can live with, but there are four things that really bothered me about this hotel.

1) Random brown stain on the top of the comforter. I had nightmares about it that night, literally.
2) No soap provided in the bathrooms. How unsanitary and disgusting!
3) The bathroom reminded me of the one on an airplane with the toilet/sink/shower all jammed together sharing the same floor. It made me feel claustrophobic.
4) Prostitutes hanging around on the street corners near this hotel. I think that says something about the area.

Positive:
1. Its a room, with a bed and some floor to put the bags.
2. It is a bathroom, with a door(!) (which is more then I can say about the hotel before that)
3. Helpful receptionists, cleaners how clean.
4. Cheap
5. Really close to the airport, and didn't hear a sound
6. Wifi worked well
Negative:
1. It was only a bus in to town, but still a bit out of the way (30 euro taxi)
2. window could not open
3. a bit dirty, and no lights! accept in the bathroom

We only slept in there, so really can complain. All in all a good hotel, with all you need.

Hotel is located next to (15 min walk) from Nice airport. Rooms are very small (8 sqm?) and difficult to be there with someone else - had a feeling that I sleep in the lift. We have got room with view to airport/sea and there was a very small window blocked to open. As advantage hotel ssays they accept pets but.... it was like dogs shelter. Some guests move in with 2 dogs and left them alone in the room and went away for good party to Nice downtown. Dogs were barking half of the night and we could not sleep. Reception told us they cannot enter the room as they have no key so we could not sleep. Next day morning agreed compensation with hotel (they suppose to return 1 night fee) but they been fooling me for mor than months. Finally pushed booking.com to follow this up and await not retured payment (over 6 weeks). NOT recommended and I will never ciem back again at any price.

Stayed here a few time, a brisk ten mins walk come out of the airport turn right, follow the walking/ cycle track, Hotel is clean great for plane spotters, to get into town the bus is one or two euro's, or just take a nice walk along the promenade, one in town a fantastic place..
Hotel is convenient for the airport, clean, small but tidy, does the job.

Room Tip: airport facing view
