We took the early affternoon train and got to the station early- make sure that you know which station you need as it is not the main one. We were lucky to get a seat- I wouldn't have wanted to stand for the duration of this trip. We got off at Entrevieaux (I ttink that's how it is spelt?) about half way along the route- this is a spectacular medieval fortress town with many narrow alley ways and nooks and crannies to explore and a few bars in the old square (don't expect rapid service!). I didn't explore the battlements due to lack of time and lack of exact money to pay at the turnstile- take some euro coins . The station platform for the return trip was bedlam and if the same train had returned to pick us up (a one carriage affair) most of us would have been left behind- but thankfully it was a big one. Stunning scenery and well worth the effort.
