“Gorgeous Villa with Good Art - To See!”
Reviewed August 16, 2012

This is a spectacular Beaux-Arts Villa with English garden, built in the early 20c by a Ukranian princess when the Baumettes section of Nice was home to many Russian immigres. The city of Nice acquired the building in the 1920s & the upstairs has a lovely collection of Raoul Dufy's works (donated by Mme Dufy, whose portrait hangs between two windows). Lovely, airy, uncrowded, free! Some guidebooks must have erroneously reported it houses Impressionist work - none in evidence (reference to 1 Bonnard, but didn't see) - and perhaps the guides confused Dufy with the Impressionist school? There is a separate gallery that houses many works by Jules Chenet, but not the posters that he is so well knowen for. While here, be sure to stop just below at 123-25 Rude de France and see Gloris Mansions, the most outstanding Art Deco building in Nice.

“Not worth the visit”
Reviewed July 25, 2012

We were mislead by the Rick Steves guide book which indicated that there were paintings by some of the Impressionists painters; If they were in the museum, we didn't find them. There was a large collection of the Duffy's work. This museum is in a large mansion. The house itself is very interesting.

“Excellent and free”
Reviewed July 20, 2012

Free entry to museum and gardens. The museum holds a good variety of sculptures and paintings that should appeal to most general visitors. There are small gardens where you can usually find some shade and peace.

“Musée des Beaux Arts”
Reviewed July 16, 2012

Not far from Magnon (we walked from there - 5 minutes - since we were staying at Bellet), this is a small but very well-kept museum with some excellent pieces of art ranging from early medieval altarpieces to late Déco. Entrance is free and the villa itself is set amongst cool and well-mainted gardens
