“Home comforts on the Cote d'Azur”
Reviewed May 10, 2012

I visited Nice for the second time this May. My last visit brought me to a very glamorous and expensive hotel which was everything one might expect for such a venue - but heartless. This visit I decided to try something more intimate and less obvious - so I discovered Villa Malouine on Blvd Carnot very close to the main Port of Nice. This 10-bed converted Russian villa was set beautifully against the rising incline of the coastline and my quiet, charmingly decorated room overlooked the sea. The host was willing to direct me to any attractions or touristic must-sees in addition to having some very insightful suggestions on things to do and places off the beaten track - he also offered a speed-boat ride which was scintillating. The breakfast was more than I ever needed and the hospitality (and constant availability of delicious coffee) made my stay most memorable and truly enjoyable. My Norwegian neighbours in the next room left the day before I did and expressed their delight at having selected this hotel - by the time my departure time had come, I shared their enthusiasm and would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a unique and intimate experience of accommodation within easy reach of central Nice, the Cote d'Azur, Villefranche, Monaco/Monte Carlo..... the ideal location! Thanks to the owner for a wonderful stay! MC (Ireland/USA)

Room Tip: Rooms 9 and 10 were wonderful.

Poor room Poor Bed.
Jacussi now a flower pot and not working. Breakfirst you can buy for 8 euros and that is only
bread with jam and some coffie.
The bed is full of springs and your back will kill you after sleeping there.
Staff is nice but that is not what i looked for.

the hotel is located at the end of an little road off the boulvard and so it s very quiet. The breakfast is on the south terrace and the quality is very good indeed .We left the car on the hotel parking as the old town is just 10 minutes walk ,and the beach is very close also.We had a nice room with a balcony and wooden floor. The bathroom was recently redone and that rare among hotels...we are sure to come back.

Some friends from california stayed already there and they loved it , so naturally we booked
a large room (suite junior) and we were not disapointed. The center of Nice is 10 min walk and that s very useful as we never touched our car during the 3 days we stayed there.
The hote offers boat trip and we water skied !!! really awesome.
Plenty of restaurants nearby.the room was clean with a balcony and beds seemed new.

We were on the way to Corsica and we happen to stop at the villa and we ...loved it !
The old town is 10 minutes walk as well as the place Garibaldi where one finds good restaurants. The owners did their best to give us directions .The beach ,quiet hidden , coco
beach is also 10 minutes walk.It s more a family home than a hotel as it has ten rooms
and altho it seemed fully booked you don t see or hear people .

Although we have stayed in a nimber of hotels, this is the first time we really felt compelled to genuinely advise the people what they are potentially getting themselves into.
We stayed in a standard room (112€/night for 6nights).
Firstly, the owner (Nikolas), insisted on knowing our every plan for the duration of the stay.
Although he appeared to be willing to help, he deliberately did not do so when asked for things such as booking a taxi for the return to the airport.
Towels and bed linen were of very low quality, towels were changed once, (only when we complained), bed linen was not changed at all!
The shower and toilet were a makeshift build on that did not fit with the room plan. These facilities, which were all grouped in a single ~2m square were so small you could not pick the soap up if you dropped it in the shower, or bend down to cup some water from the laventry after brushing your teeth. The toilet screen could not be closed as your legs got in the way while sitting down on the bowl.
Internet, while available at the reception, was randomly switched off (presumably by the owner) in the evenings. Similar shortages occurred with certain power points and hair dryer during the early mornings and late nights, resulting in our mobile phones and cameras failing to charge!

In summary, we whole heartedly suggest you consider another accommodation. This should be declassified as a hotel!

Pros:
- rooms are clean and quiet
- nice small garden

Cons:
- location: it takes 30 mins walk to reach the beach and the old town (main attractions of Nice)
- lack of amenities in the surrounding: the hotel is located on a big off-the centre road
- price: we paid 340 euros for 3 nights, the breakfast is not included and it costs 8 euros per person (you get a cup of coffee, a croissant and a baguette to share).
- no common rooms, resting areas and internet services
- no hair dryer, shower gels or shampoo provided

All in all, not to be recommended as ration price/quality is poor.
