“Good Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 5, 2012

We had a really good room, 224 top floor with balcony, we were a little nervous after reading some reviews, but our fears were unfounded as our room was spacious, it had a fridge, good bathroom, tea and coffee making facilities, Internet was fine, a little slow and had to be reignited each day, staff were very helpfully and friendly, location was great, close to train station and five minute walk to sea. Great value for money.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2012

We booked the flights and hotel on Saturday the 4th and arrived on the 5th August for a 4 night stay.

We arrived at 11 am (Check in is usually 2pm) and were allowed to check in immediately.

The front desk staff were friendly and efficient giving us great advice on where to eat and how to get around using the busses and trains. Their English is excellent.

The room was on the 2nd floor with a nice balcony overlooking the courtyard. This was really pleasant to sit out on and have a glass of wine in the evening. It was quiet and very relaxing.

The room itself was of a decent size - not massive, not small. Fridge, TV and AC all worked well and were useful additions. The AC is a necessity IMO during August.

The bed was really comfortable and we slept for 11hrs straight the first night.

The room was cleaned very well each day with fresh towels and linen.

The bathroom is OK although the placement of the toilet in front of the door is a little strange as it is a struggle to close the door when sat down due to fact that your legs will stick out into the room (if you are over 5foot 10).

The shower is absolutely fine.

Breakfast was not included in the price ... but is easily added on if you want it - 12Euro pp. Lots of variety and in abundance. We had breakfast two out of four days and were very happy on both occasions.

The hotel does not do lunch or dinner but you can use the restaurant area to eat your own food and relax in. This is not an issue because there are so many good restaurants nearby.

The hotel has free wifi for which they give you a 24hr code each day. This is of good speed.

Security at the hotel is very good. There are key cards to get into the premises after 12 so those leaving a car can be assured it will be safe.

The location is excellent. 15 min walk to the old town and approx 5 mins to the sea front. The walk to the old town is really pleasant as the buildings are nice to look at and you pass hundreds of quaint restaurants. It is located 5 to 10 mins walk from the train and bus station which is great for a day trip to Monaco and for catching the bus back to the airport (both so easy and cheap - 8Euro return to Monaco and 4 Euro day travel card on the bus).

Would I stay there again? - Yes. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit.

Room Tip: The superior room we had on the 2nd floor was really nice and had a good view of the courtyard.

I do not recognise the description of the last two contributors. The staff were friendly and most helpful. Our double room on the ground floor was clean and of good size. Linen and towels were changed every day. There was a wide choice everyday for breakfast; fresh fruit, eggs and bacon, cold meat and cheese etc. The room's air conditioning was very efficient and quiet (unlike many in larger hotels I've stayed in throughout Europe). The hotel was within walking distance of the station and the other main tourist areas of Nice. There was a good selection of restaurants within walking distance, from tourist to local and from expensive to reasonably priced. I found this hotel to be of good value for the French Riviera.

Room Tip: Ask for a superior room

But for this hotel our vacation would have been perfect.
The location is correct, it's far from the nicest part of the city: the old town. Yes, it's near the Promenade d'Anglais, but please; there's nothing really spectacular about it unless you feel like looking at fancy cars and drooling over those expensive restaurants.
I would totally advise choosing a hotel closer to the old town, because the port; the park with its view on nice and the cozy streets, that's where you feel the true spirit of Nice. You can find an inexpensive restaurant where people are nice and the food is delicious.
Hotel rooms are totally "cage-like" as the previous reviewer said and what's even worth, you can't go out on the balcony for some fresh air. Because if you do a furious desk clerk will storm into your room to tell you balconies are old and if you stand there they risk falling down. Yes people, in a city like Nice; some hotels can't find enough funds to renovate their balconies so that people can actually USE them. Besides; how on earth are you supposed to know that, no one told us anything upon arrival:
Then; they wouldn't let us dry our towels outside because they "spoil the view". The problem is that in that cage like room there is nowhere else you can do it, except for the balcony. And we would have understood, but instead of explaining it normally, the staff just put our wet beach towels on the BEDS while we were away. And when we tried talking to them we felt like we weren't actually visitors, but some unwelcome occupants lol
Remember that you get this information from angry desk clerks who are apparently trained to attack people rather than ,make them feel comfortable and welcome.
Prices are ok, but honestly, I stayed at other places in Nice that were cheaper or worth the same price; and they were soooooo much better.
I do not recommend staying in this hotel.

We had booked the hotel Berlioz in Nice last week; but due to major problems that the hotel had with air conditioning, the hotel manager contacted us and kindly explained the reason why we were going to stay in a different hotel, the Oasis.
Upon arrival the concierge could not find our reservation; then told us that the parking was full and we found out that there was still one spot... The room was very disappointing: as narrow as a van, with a miniature wc - my husband could not even take a shower as it was really small. The bed was just larger than a single bed and shorter than a regular bed size.
Checking out, the following morning, nobody asked about our stay, and we left without a word from the lady at the desk.
Then, willing to have a better start of the day, we decided to get a "cappuccino" before work. We walked half hour before finding out that in France cafès are not allowed to use fresh milk; so we gulped down a fake version of the Italian drink and decided that we had to visit the famous market of Nice before leaving. Buying flowers, spices and fresh fruit was so rewarding that we decided to go back to Nice in the near future, but to the hotel Le Meurice which we saw near Place Massena: a neat, cozy and charming hotel - only 3 star, like the Oasis - but with a totally different appeal: nice furniture, clean, with a certain style, and a very welcoming and polite guy at the desk!
Rina

Room Tip: narrow, dark, uncomfortable bed

About 10 mins walk from the main Promenade des Anglais, the hotel is set in a quiet area of Nice. It is a small hotel with limited facilities and our room was tiny but clean, comfortable and adequate for a short stay and the price we paid. Breakfast was included in the price but it was not great - just a selection of bread and criossants but again, you get what you pay for. I would stay here again as it is the perfect base to explore Nice. If you like enjoying the facilities of a hotel when on holiday then avoid this place but if you just want a bed for the night and somewhere to have a quiet drink without breaking the bank then stay here and save your money for the lovely restaurants and shops of Nice. Beware beer/lager is really expensive here, to my husband's dismay. But hey, if you like wine like me, then you're fine!
