5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2011

Close to the beach ( RENT CAR TO GO IN Saint Tropez , Cannes , Antibes , Mnte CArlo - one day for each it enough ) . At the entrance you think like they are under construction , BUT : DESERVE ALL MONEY . Excellent staff , BREAKFAST IT S ORGANIC , each room are different , it s a high tech hotel , paint it in purple , pink , pozitive and warms colours . When we was here in july 2007 , our daughter staing at home , but we have saw family with young children . It s PERFECT for a romantic trip . On the top floors you have wiews over the Nice. It s in a quaiet place . In the summer you will eat the breakfast in the inside terrace ( Very nice ) .Be carefull with the parking - try the road to the beach ( 15 mt from the hotel ) .At the hotel you must pay ( 10E/Day in 2007 )

Room Tip: top floors

The location of this hotel is really good, with a 5 min walk to the Promenade de Anglais, two supermarkets within 2 mins walk, the old town a gentle 15 min walk and the new town about 10.

As other reviews indicate, the toilets and bathrooms are within the bedroom area so we knew to expect this, and although a little strange, modesty could be kept by using the toilets downstairs in the reception area if really worried! Although as you are basically visible to your travel companion whilst using any part of the bathroom, you could only really travel here as a couple! (Unless you were very intimate with your friends or colleagues!) The hotel smelt amazing and provided lovely bathroom products, and the staff were really nice and friendly. The roof top is also a nice area, although there is no shade provided at all which is not great! The pool is also more of a splash pool. The beds were really comfy and the blinds do not let in a single bit of light!

We did not eat at the hotel as we found it really expensive - 20 euro for breakfast! The Hi Beach is also not included in your stay at the hotel, and we were given the 'guest price' of the beach, which was the same as the normal price! Other downsides were the lack of wardrobe space (only 4 hangers in total) and no where to hang towels to dry. Also, the shower had a huge gap in the door so water went everywhere - So it felt a little of style over substance at times!

Instead of using the Hi Beach, you can go to the public beaches for free, but these are pebbly and you wont have any shade. We opted instead to go to the Opera Plage which was 14 euro a day and included lounger and parasol and the sea in Nice is amazing! Also try eating at La Voglia on the old town square - great food!

Overall, this was a nice but quirky hotel, which although it does have some downsides, we liked it overall and would stay there again if we returned to Nice.

The staff at reception were very courteous and knowledgeable about the immediate surroundings, and the check in procedure was smooth. After asking for a room facing the back, we were given instead a room on the first floor directly on the street. We opted for the monospace option. The room was large enough for one night, but it was immediately clear that design took precedence over functionality. As we entered, we noticed how there were no hooks or a wardrobe to store our belongings. Therefore we had to get used to systematically jump over our suitcases when moving around, which kept us fit. The TV was on the wall next to the bed, therefore watching it from our bed gave us a chance to stretch our neck muscles at the same time. The desk was well positioned, but there was no chair, so I am not sure how one could actually use it. Maybe you can stretch your thigh muscles by pretending you are sitting on a chair and maintaining the position for a few minutes at a time? Water leaked out from the shower enclosure, therefore be careful not to get your belongings wet (since they would most likely be on the floor). The acoustic insulation was really terrible, therefore we were regularly disturbed by cars and motorcycles driving by our window, and this until the following morning. Since the shower and WC are visible from anywhere in the room, make sure you select your roommate(s) accordingly. Toiletries are average. Wireless access is free, but requires a password from reception. We did not have breakfast at the hotel but the breakfast room seemed nice. Check out the great terrace and mini-swimming pool on the roof. Parking at €24 per night seemed a bit of a rip-off, but free options were impossible to find when we visited. We would not stay there again.

HI Hotel is a delight if this is your kind of thing. We got the "craziest/hottest" room. A bit out there. Shower and toilet up 6 kookie steps and completely visible - plexiglass, no privacy but a little balcony. Maybe request a different style room. There are 7. Nice staff. Private beach 6 blocks away with great food and comfortable chairs. Definitely a fun place to stay in NIce for a night or 2.

Room Tip: unless you are very young, ask for anything but the "wildest" room.

Hi hotel bills itself as "Eco" but much of that is hype. The most Eco thing is using very modern minimalist design to make small rooms in an older building work. For the most part, the rooms were clean, modern, with good electrics. The rooms are made to look larger with shoer enclosures that are open to the room. Fine for lovers but might be too much forced intimacy for some. I asked to change rooms when the first one offered had the toilet shielded only partially from view by a glass pane. Bad. The low beds were not especially comfortable

The rest of the hotels spaces are nice, the breakfast are quite pleasant. The staff was really constantly attentive and really scored points for helping out, even anticipating needs

Quirky Hotel walking distance to beach and sites.
Rooms comfortable although seeing your travelling companion on the toilet through the clear bathrooms was strange
