“...not VERY satisfying though...”
Reviewed June 30, 2013

Though the hotel lies very nicely to reach the beach and the center of the town, it is a disappointment to stay there:

It is very clear that the owner do not use money on the hotel to keep it in good shape. The room was quite used, though clean. You could hardly use the shower, because it was put on the wrong place on the wall. You couldn´t swap between water for the shower or the tub neither. The hair-dreyer should be called a joke.

They promised internet on the room, which is only possible, if you have an old laptop. Don´t come with modern stuff - you cannot get connected. Which means you have to sit in the lobby to use the wifi. I am sorry, but I am in the 21st century, I am not 20 anymore and I am not staying in hostel.

They are selling the rooms with a "gardenview" which is the park just on the other side of the street. So you have a lot of noises there from the street - and they didn´t tell that the park is under redecoration, which meant that we could hear the heavy building machines almost every day. That happens but it would have been very nice to tell your customers before, right?

We only used once the "Breakfast" - you may only use it in the cellar, because on the terrasse you will only get a croissant and a coffee. You do not get much more in the cellar: The buffet is quite poor and absolutely not decorated with joy or inspiration. € 26 per person was absolutely not ok for that boring breakfast offer, so we decided to go to the market, where we got it cheaper and more colourful for sure, without sitting in the cellar.

The price per night was ok for Nice - but I guess still a customer may have some expectations for his stay. We could see that the hotel mainly is used for Asian and English tourist groups, maybe staying only for 2 days or so. We can not recommend the hotel for a weeks stay or even longer.

Dear Louishh,
I was so sorry to read your disappointing experience and that we didn’t meet your expectations on certain levels.
I understand that the room was not to your liking however we hope you will give us the opportunity to offer you another experience. Our reservation team can suggest you a large range of choice in the room categories: you may like to try one of our seaview rooms on an upper floor next time. We can also provide you a classic on the City View, which are quieter.
Regarding the room equipment or breakfast choice our Team is on hand to deal with any request that guests may have.
Unfortunately we are not informed ourselves about the work program in the city .This will be solved very soon, the gardens opening for the Jazz Festival in July.
Once again, please accept our apologies and we hope that you will give us a chance to regain your confidence.

Well, what an experience. Had an open mind coming here even after reading the reviews. However, I would tend to suspect that most of the bad ones are 100% true.

This is a very, very, very poor hotel & certainly not anywhere close to four stars. Unsure of how it works in France however the first two places I stayed on this trip were two stars and better than this hotel.

Main issues as follows:

Hotel decor is desperately outdated. Do not be fooled by the lobby.

Furniture would be 30 years old with cracks.

Smells like cigarettes when air conditioning is on.

Lift closes then reopens every time you go in it on the ground floor. Get it fixed you squirrels.

Counter staff are flat out rude. Only words I heard from them were "credit card & passport". Got one "bon soir" in the four nights I was there. Spend too much time acting like models & talking to each other. Cleaning staff however are very friendly when you pass them in hall, etc.

Floor is horribly uneven. Would love to know if structurally sound.

Pillows are hard like rocks & beds uneven. Again, god only knows how old they are.

WiFi is only available in the lobby however this is clearly stated before you get there.

Plus is that it is very close to the beach. If you are spending absolute minimal time in your room (sleeping & showering & that's it), you might get by. Accommodation is expensive in Nice however for a little bit more you could probably get a better experience by a factor of five.

Would not go back if they paid me or recommend to others.

The bathroom seemed somewhat neglected and could have used refurbishment. Showering was awkward because there was no shower curtain, so there was always a puddle on the floor afterwards.
There was a separate toilet room which had a toilet and about 4 feet in front of it, a bidet facing the toilet. Kind of a strange setup if you ask misterpiggy.

We stayed in this hotel for five nights over the Grand Prix weekend, if our money had not been taken upfront we would have left. We paid a huge premium for three nights, because of the race, for a de luxe room, which was tired and dreary nothing like the website photos, the bathroom was large but scruffy, chunks of tiles missing or cracked, poor lighting, the beds were hard, horrible rubbery pillows, indifferent linen and no attempt whatsoever of a luxury throw or cushions. The air conditioning was weak and sounded like a tap running all night, I could go on!! The view was good but we had not been advised at the time of booking of the huge renovations going on in the gardens opposite, a concrete plant, several diggers and worst of all some sort of concrete cutter that did not stop all day so it was impossible to have the window open.
We did go to reception on the first evening to ask had we been given the wrong room, 'no you have a de luxe room' was the answer.
The lobby was a constant transit camp we guess people on cruises, there was no elegance there amongst the piles of luggage!
The terrace on the top was very nice but spoiled by the loud music and indifferent staff, the prices ridiculous for cheap wine.
We found all of the staff indifferent to their customers apart from the lovely Polish girl in the breakfast room who remembered us every day and had our tea on the table as soon as we sat down!!!
No wifi in the room only in the crowded lobby.
Plus side the towels were a reasonable size and we had bathrobes too!

Dear Daisydufus,

Thank you for having taken the time to share with us on the tripadvisor website.
Your feedback in relation to the rooms will be taken in consideration in order to improve and serve you better in the future. Otherwise as our deluxe rooms have been entirely refreshed I will be interested to have more details about your room number.

We are sorry for the inconvenience due to the works in front of the hotel. It is a big project in the city from the Acropolis to the Promenade des Anglais with beautiful gardens that we will be glad to enjoy very soon. Unfortunately we are not inform about the programm and details about the works so we cannot anticipate .

Your comments in regards to the the staff attitude have been transmitted to the head of department concerned to remedy to this kind of issues and review immediately the behaviour of the staff which does not match to our service level. On the other way we thank you for your warm adjectives regarding one of our employees and I will personally congratulate her.

The Grand Prix is one of the period with the higher occupancy from Monaco to Nice. We understand that it was not maybe adapted for a romantic stay and hope we will welcome you at another occasion to make your stay memorable.

We booked this hotel for a 3 day stay as a base for exploring Nice/Monaco/Cannes - it was described as a 4* Hotel. With a few exceptions, I would NOT describe this as 4* - probably 3* at best. This is based on the room (238) we were allocated which was small, aged decor and fittings (no charm), smelly (worse aspect), very poorly ventilated, very small (onopenable) window and natural light and with a dreadful view. However, what I can say positively about the Hotel is that the Staff were very pleasant and polite and helpfull; it has a great rooftop Bar and coffee shop and restaurant (VERY expensive though - 23 EU + tip for 2 poorly made Gin&Tonics and a few peanuts and tiny olives); and is nicely located pretty close to the new (still being constructed) square which I think will be lovely, once completed and Galleries lafayette (Nice branch). Thankfully, there are masses of exceptional value and quality restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel and I gorged on musscles and steaks for 3 days at very fair prices - restaurant reviews to follow. The hotel breakfast was just about ok, although visiting the restaurant after a Tour Party of japanese Clients was not the ideal time to breakfast! All in all, it would be considered expensive at any rate higher than 90EU a night in my opinion.

Room Tip: Don't pick 238 Insist on a "square" view

Dear Sir,

We are very pleased to hear that your stay was enjoyable especially thanks to our staff and central location to discover Nice and the French Riviera. I will share your feedback with our entire staff members.
Concerning the view from you room, it depends on the category. The classic rooms have a city view (pedestrian zone), superior rooms, a garden view and balcony and the deluxe sea view rooms have a balcony or a terrace. We actually continue our renovations in the entire hotel to refresh decoration from the deluxe to the standard category.
We will be pleased to take care of your next stay and make you discover our news.
We thank you for your comment and hope to welcome you for your future stay.

Grand reception but this isnt 4 star! We paid extra for a superior room with sea view; room is large but very sparsely furnished and not very welcoming or comfy. Bed slanted on 1 side so felt like was constantly falling out! No air con ( "isnt on" is all we got told) so we kept french windows/ doors open- kept room cool in day but noise outside woke us up early, as is a road, a car park entrance& a cluster of bus stops outside- also, they are redoing the public garden - so construction traffic& noise at 8am. So either be cool during night but woken up early or bake through the night! The small garden right opposite is the hangout& bedroom for local drunks, so also noisy! Also would have expected kettle etc for making a cuppa.
Staff were, however, very helpful esp the older gentleman waiter at breakfast!
Breakfast was €20- ok selection but bit tedious after a week as nothing changed/varied.
Overall, 5/10, but expensive for lack of facilities& standard of room.

Dear Ljonesey,
We thank you for your positive comments regarding our staff. Guest experience is important to us.
We do apologize for the fact that the air conditioning had not been switched on during your stay. This is mainly due to the weather conditions during this period .
Regarding our rooms the superior category is overlooking the gardens. Rooms are spacious and offer all the facilities and 4 star hotel standards. Regarding your bed I am sorry that you did not contact our reception. Our team is available 24 hours to solve any technical problem during your stay.
Regarding the noise in the city we inform you this will be quickly solved as work should end in June before the Nice Jazz Festival .
We hope you will give us the opportunity to offer you another experience and suggest our seaview rooms on an upper floor. These rooms have been newly decorated. We actually continue our renovations on the other categories.
