“cosy place with corsican food and wines”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2012

we been here the second time after our stay in nice in spring

reservation recomanded, the place is allways full. a friendly welcome, and we enjoyed this time a delicious aubergine gratin and melon as starter (imagine the melon was the best of the year i had, and this of session! the restaurant buys fresh at the market) after this a fish and me the special lamb from the oven. both was very good, even if the meat has a large bone, not my favorite but it tastes great. only remarke: plates and food not always hot

chose on of the corsican wines, they are great! we had again "clos capitoro", full bodied rich and round for about 27€ as i remember.

the stuff is friendly helpful, sometimes some breaks in the service, but who is in a hurry on holidays? we enjoyed the evening.

“Good value for money”

We stumbled upon this restaurant by accident - and were pleasantly surprised. Food was excellent for price. Service was efficient and decent - they brought us a lemoncillo on the house at the end of our meal - nice touch. Would come again and recommend a meal here.

“Nice old Nice restaurant”

Visited with another couple on a Friday night. Dined outdoors. Service was very good and so was the food, very tasty and rather inexpensive. Main course plus desert and wine was 75 euros for two.

“Food has its ups and downs but service was terrible”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2012

We visited La Villa on Monday. Actually it wasn't our primary choice for restaurant, we wanted to go to nearby Le Maquis, but unfortunately it was closed that day. We wish we hadn't needed to change our restaurant choice.

The menu is rather small, but covers a wide range of dishes to all kinds of tastes. It has risottos, pastas, pizzas and traditional dishes of Corse and Nice. Prices for appetizers are around 10e, main dishes 15-25e, desserts 8e, pizzas 12e. Normal menu of 3 courses is 20e and a more luxurious menu with the same 3 courses is 25e.

Food was ok. Nothing specially good though especially compared to the prices. Pizza Nicoise was definitely not good as we had just come from Italy. "It's a typical French pizza" - so nothing of great quality. Eggplant and cheese gratin (starter) was also just normal, nothing special with mushy eggplants and healthy amount of goat cheese and a bit of tomatoes tucked into a ceramic bowl. Pasta with smoked salmon was one of the good dishes we had. Creamy sauce with thick pieces of smoked salmon was good. One can't really do pasta wrong. Duck breast with fig sauce was the best we had during the evening. The duck was cooked well, and there was a healthy amount of sweet fig sauce - almost a jam. It was served with steamed haricots and potato gratin, which were a lot less tastier than the duck. For dessert we just tried the creme brûlée, which we got a feeling it had been taken from the freezer as it was really cold at the bottom and it was slightly too cooked for our tastes.

Biggest downturn for us in the restaurant was the service. We received really blunt service even though we speak good French and English. We didn't receive water, we didn't receive a bottle of limoncello or some other liquor like all the other tables did (we were talking about it with neighboring tables). The waiters didn't ask those small things like "how was it?", "would you need something more?" and we really felt like second class citizens there compared to the tables next to us.

With that high prices we expected good service and better than average food, but unfortunately we received bad service and inconsistent quality food.

“Corsican food in Old Town Nice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2012 via mobile

La Villa was a pleasant surprise; open on a Monday evening when a lot of other restaurants close. It's tucked away down a side street on Rue de L'Abbaye and has outdoor, indoor and courtyard seating. The food was some of the best we had in Nice: a delicious cep mushroom and Corsican sausage risotto, aubergines stuffed with ricotta and a good selection of wines. It was interesting to sample some Corsican as well as Nicoise specialities. Great service and good value too :)
