Staff were very friendly upon checkin. The hotel is in a good location quite central to all the major parts of nice. The rooms are clean and tidy. The air conditioning is very good and the hotel has a lift. Breakfast is available but we didn't try it as we were on a budget. The hotel is great for what you pay for! Wifi is free and works really well. Beds are comfy. The bathroom was a little old with some cracks on the toilet and a fair bit of mould on the roof which was a bit yucky to look at but nothing major. Everything worked well and we really loved our stay here. Highly recommend!!

On my way from Brussels to Monaco with a late flight into Nice airport, I have gotten the habit not to pay a cab close to eur 100 to get by midnight into an expensive hotel in Monaco, but to stay over in NIce for the night and have some time to go for a nightly drink(s ...) on Cours Saleya and even have a bite at restaurant Safari. So Booking.com found me a room in the hotel Carlton in Nice, at eur 65 a night only, and that in the month of June. The hotel was quite full with elderly tourists, and all seemed quite satisfied. The hotel has the name Carlton, but it is indeed "only" a two to three star hotel, but in a nice area, nice street (Victor Hugo) with trees, at 15 minutes walking from both the train station and from the beach, and at 5 minutes from the main shopping area. Good quality for the price paid, quiet room, quiet other tourists, quiet area, but an outdated mattress .... overall I had a good night rest for a good price. Friendly staff, both at night at arrival as in the morning while leaving. Good place for an overnight stay for sure.

Room Tip: I was on 3rd floor on the back side and I can not complain

If you get a room third floor, facing the nice little park, I think you made one of the best choises in Nice. That is if you think it´s important with:
1. Large room, which all of the mentioned are. Room 305 is even a bit spacier than those beside.
2. Perfect location for a tourist. Near Promenade Anglais, the pedestrian area with shopping/restaurants and Old Town
3. A large balcony with interesting view
4. Beds wide and very comfortable. No plasic cover between sheet and matress (most hotels in France/Spain have that nowadays.)
5. Silent and well-working AC.
6. Friendly and informative staff (the not so nice breakfast-lady was an exception. But you can avoid her, by skipping the very dull breakfast. Lots of good options within a few minutes walk.)
On the negative side: No safety box in the room. If you stay lower than third floor, your view will be very restricted and you get more of traffic noise (if you still are on the frontside.) Bathroom and beds spotless clean. Floor and balcony not. But OK for us.
Before we moved to Carlton we had a room at hotel Lepante.10% cheaper, but our room there was one third in size. And that hotel had no 24-hours reception and were a bit more uncentral located.

Went down to Nice over the Christmas period 2011 and found this gem of a 3 star hotel on the internet. The only problem and it say in so many reports is there are no shower curtains, so we did know before we went. It Is a problem and I cannot understand why the owners dont do anything about it. That apart the Hotel is in a great place for all of Nice. The tram stop is a 5 minute walk, the train station 15 min walk , the beach ten mins, and shops ect 5 mins. We found the hotel clean all round . Our third floor room was cleaned every day, new towels and was a good size. The guys on reception were very helpful apart from one but we all have a bad day now and then. We would return without doubt.A Great place for the money.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony

I stayed at this hotel at Single room on 2-nd floor for 2 nights ,place itself is quite close to all Nice sightseeing and the beach, but my particular room did not had a fridge,tea/coffee pot or AC Unit, breakfast also was a bit lame( coffee, croisant with butter and jam, that's all)
,but You can not expect too much from Europe 3 star Hotels. Room was clean, with Big drawer and quite comfy bed,as I mentioned it had not have ACU but I had floor fan instead.
Bathroom was clean,my room had only shower though but very tide and nice.
