Very well laid out with space and quiet. Not child friendly at all. Peaceful location and cool in the trees.

We loved this museum even more than we expected, as Chagall's inspiration came through his paintings the layout and the curator's notes. A painter who radiated love of humanity through his work. Song of Songs series and the biblical series in the main gallery were very well displayed and brought across their power to those new and familiar with his work. It was also a bonus to see some of his stained glass and even the mosaic.

We didn't know much about Chagall before but really enjoyed finding out more about him and his work. It's the details in his work that is so fascinating - you can look at the large paintings for ages, finding more and more little animals and sketches within them. The gardens are lovely too and we enjoyed a drink in the outdoor cafe

Entry is free the first Sunday of the month so it's worth planning that in to your itinery if you happen to be in Nice at the start of a month.

This museum was a highlight on our five day stay in Nice. The museum itself is a work of art and the works contained within it are sublime and beautifully presented The museum was formed around an extensive collection donated by Chagall in the early seventies and has expanded to include further works subsequently donated by Chagall and others. Most moving are the biblical works which reveal so much of Chagall's amazing heritage and spirituality. This wonderful museum is not overwhelming and can be explored in reasonable depth in several hours. Do take the time to explore it systematically, using the audio guide to assist you. Be sure to take the time to step back and marvel at the art itself and what it reveals about this amazing artist. The gallery is closed on Tuesdays. Consider doing what we did and seeing it as part of a Hop on Hop Off bus tour. It is located in Cimiez, some distance from downtown NIce. Stop at the Matisse museum first and take in the Roman ruins while you're there before travelling south to the Chagall museum. Enjoy a bite in the outdoor garden restaurant before you leave.

It is fantastic, great for the whole family. Even though it is small museum, it's collection is quite extensive. The artist himself inaugurated this museum. It is really worthwhile watching the documentary before entering the exhibition rooms. It really transmits Chagall's conception of art and life
