“good but rather small and limited themes”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

set in pleasant gardens, helpful staff but the film about Chagall's life runs at specific times in English (12 & 2) & in French so I couldn't wait around to watch it. The main room houses paintings from his American period and they are all very religious. Unfortunately I could take advantage of the audio guide as you need to have a document with photo on and my docs were at the villa. There was a small additional (possibly Jewish) room, The temporary exhibition was in preparation so some rooms were off limits. Euros 5 to get in (more if temp exhibitions are open. That wasn't unreasonable and you could take photos without any flash. The external mosaic was my highlight. But worth a visit

“Now a Chagall Fan”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

Wow! Not many paintings but lovely art that you must experience in this beautiful museum. We visited on a Sunday and it was free. Recommend taking a bus since it is at least a 30 minute hike up hill to reach.

“Nice paintings”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

It was very nice to see these big paintings with all the colors that Chagall used in his work. Even if one appreciate his circus motives best, the items from the Bible are really impressing. It is worthwhile taking the time to visit this museum. On your way there you have the possibility to see Nice city from an overlooking perspective as the museum is situated in the hills.

“Beautiful Selection of Marc Chagall's artwork”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

It is well worth a visit to see this museum. Although only 3 of the 5 rooms were available for us to view, it was still wonderful. The gallery does charge a nominal fee, but does include a device that explains, in several languages, the piece of work you're looking at. You provide the museum with a piece of picture ID, to ensure you don't take it with you, and then just push the numbers on the device that match the numbers on the paintings, for a detailed explanation of the work. His biblical paintings are mesmerizing in the stories he is telling. There is always so much going on to look at; and the colours he uses are truly beautiful. Don't miss going into the theatre that has a film on his life. There is also some stained glass work in the theatre which is outstanding. We visited the museum as it is one of the stops on the "Hop On, Hop Off" bus.

“Wonderful exhibition”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

This museum provides a fascinating perspective to the art of Chagall. The building is situated in pretty grounds and the cafe is pleasant. The works of Chagall are fine examples.Large luminous works based on the stories from the Old Testament charm the viewer and unlike many French galleries and museums a real effort has been made to make these accessible to non French speakers. All paintings have explanations in 3 languages and an audio guide which is excellent is also available. I really enjoyed this museum and felt I learned a lot about Chagall very easily because the exhibition was so well presented.
