“10 Great Days In Nice!”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

We had a wonderful time at this no-frills, hotel in Nice. The Mercure Nice Grimaldi is in a very central location. This hotel offers breakfast, but there are many places around the hotel to eat for less expense and better experience.

Our room was very nice, with a comfortable bed and decent air condition. The view was pretty good due to the location of center city.

Room had a hot water pot with coffee that was replenished each day with instant coffee. There is a safe in the room, which was nice. The windows opened up for fresh air.

The bathroom was decent, but the towels could have been a little bigger.

This hotel is a 10 minute walk to the beach!

Overall, I would stay here again as the price point was very good and the accommodations were in line.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are quieter. Breakfast at hotel is a bit expensive considering you can have a more aut...

We stayed for 6 nights in March. We had one of the best rooms in the hotel all refurbished.
Carpet and bed much better than previously. Strange choice of colour lime green as the main feature. Unusual idea in regard to tea and coffee etc paper cups and wooden sticks for spoons.

They did give us cups etc from the breakfast room. Breakfast very good choice including

All the staff are excellent. They are finishing the refurbishment of the public areas later this year. It will be interesting to see.

The lux rooms are much better than the standard but they cost quite a bit more.

The location is excellent and only 10 mins from everything.

All the rooms have just been renovated and redecorated, so everything is nice and new, both bedrooms and bathrooms. The bedrooms are a bit small, with just one chair and not a lot of room to move around. Large flat screen wall-hung TV, a small fridge in a cupboard along with a safe, and some rooms have a coffee maker, although ours did not. All have a kettle but with cardboard cups (I would have preferred proper mugs) and only one tea-bag per day, apart from some other infusions and sachets of instant coffee - had to take up tea bags from the breakfast buffet to make tea in the room. The bed was nice and wide - two singles pushed together - but too firm for us. Our bathroom was very tiny, so you had to be a bit of a contortionist to use the washbasin, though our friends room was better arranged. The wi-fi worked well in the room and is free but it was a bit annoying having to lgo through the log in process each time you used it. There is a nice roof terrace to sit and enjoy the sunshine. The breakfast buffet is excellent, with fresh fruit, yogurts, cereals, cold meats, cheeses, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, sausages, bacon and pancakes. The hotel bar doesn't seem to be kept well stocked - we went down to the bar for a pre-dinner drink on our first evening, but gin and tonics were off as the bar had no gin.The hotel is in a very convenient location, close to Place Massena, where there is a tram stop - the tram will take you to Place Garibaldi, where you can get buses along the coast eastwards for €1 (to go westwards you can get buses near Promenade des Anglais). It is about 5 minutes walk to Promenade des Anglais, 10 minutes walk to the train station and about 15 minutes into the old town. Plenty of restaurants very close by - we particularly liked Chez Davia, just along the same road as the hotel. Tried again 6 days later but still no gin! There is a handy supermarket right next door to the hotel.

When we arrived we were told they had no record of the booking I had made in October. Instead of making a fuss they quickly booked us in and went about sorting the problem. By the end of the day everything was ok. Breakfast each day was very good with a nice selection including hot and cold. The room was one that had been renovated (5th floor) and it was fine. We slept with the window open and it was relatively quiet until early morning. For location it couldn't be better. Literally 5 mins in any direction will get you to the main areas (sea front/shops) and another 5 mins to the old town. The train station is about 20 minutes away but easy to reach and travel along the coast is very simple. Finally when we were leaving because of the Carnival I wanted to know about the 98 bus. Reception researched it for me and told me how the route had changed and pointed me in the direction of where we could catch the bus which we did easily. All reception staff spoke excellent English so there was no language issues.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone and wish to thank all staff for making us so welcome.

I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is renovated. The rooms are very clean and decorated with taste. It is in the city center so everything is on a walking distance. It is a little bit noisy when you open the window but that's normal for a hotel downtown.

Hotel is tired, lots of renovation work and banging (take paracetamol), good location - roughly 300 yards from the beach and similar to main shopping area, staff friendly and breakfast average/good. Wouldn't have stayed here out of choice!!

To be fair to the Grimaldi, myself, my wife and my 17 month old daughter were meant to be staying in the Promenade D'Anglais having booked via Avios however, we were told a week before that they had to shut the water off for one of the 3 nights and were offered an alternative, we were told we would have a City View and an upgraded room from a Double Superior to Luxury.

Upon arrival we found we had a Double room, which was extremely tired, and the view was immediately onto another building opposite. On our way out to explore we mentioned the above to the hotel. We were told that it was the only room they had that could fit a cot, and all rooms had a similar standard view (clearly not true), In response we said we'd be complaining when we got back home.

Having been out for the afternoon, we returned and got into an alternative lift, there was tarpaulin on the floor, and chipboard for interior walls, clear it was being renovated, we then got back into our room to hear banging and sawing, the noise was too much! We phoned reception, to be very fair we were immediately dealt with and got moved to a much bigger, had a lounge area and separate bedroom, apparently their biggest room, it even had a city view rather than street view - a much better room, which was also much quieter, although distant banging could still be heard.

The hotel is clearly going through renovation work and I'm not sure who is to blame for us not being told this beforehand, the hotel or Avios. We could have staying in the Mercure Promenade D'Anglais for the remaining two nights having gone to speak to them on our day of arrival, but we decided with toddler it wasn't practical.

Had we not been moved room this would have been two stars.

This hotel is a good location, about 15 minutes walk from the station. The staff were friendly.

The rooms however were a bit tired and old, and the bathrooms could use a good scrub and some mould removal.

The beds were comfy and the rooms warm, but the room inlcusions were dated.

The room really could ahve used a clock though, I was surprised there wasn't one!
