Booked this hotel to stay in with friends whilst attending the Monaco Grand Prix, and was reasonably pleased with the choice
It is acceptable without being outstanding, but is let down by the high room rate that we paid
I have stayed in better accomodation for less
Oh well, maybe that comes with Nice during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend
If the weather is sunny, make sure you try the roof top deck

The Mercure Nice Gimaldi is in a great location near the pedestrian area of Nice, great restaurants, The Promenade and shops within walking distance. There is even a supermarket next door if you need to buy food. The rooms are small and a bit tired, although our bathroom had been renovated. The roof top area is great to relax in after a day of sightseeing. The breakfast was tasty and had lots of variety, well worth spending the money. For the convenience of being close to everything it was worth staying here and is quiet for getting a good nights sleep.

Stayed at this hotel this Spring during a break with a friend. Location is really good - you'll get a good night's sleep as it's just off the main drag in a quiet street but within a short walking distance of the old town, the beach, new town's shops and restaurants and 20min walk to the train station. The rooms are really shabby but clean, make sure you get the superior rooms as they have nice little balconies and are a good size and lighter than the standard rooms (they're mainly on the 5th and 6th floor). Staff are really friendly both at the reception and the restaurant. Haven't dined there, but breakfast is good. We've been told the hotel will be refurbished this September too, so I'll check it out next year and report back!

Although by means could anyone claim this place to be beautiful, we're findin it more than acceptable. As even the most disparaging reviewers have commented, we find the location very convenient and central. Short walk to anywhere in central Nice, including the promenade and the old town.

From what others have said, the rooms must vary enormously in terma of size and condition. Ours, 320, is of a good size even with a king size bed with plenty of space to spread out and to store clothes. There is a decent size writing desk / dressing table, two comfortable chairs and even a kettle with cups, tea, coffee and milk - unusual in France. A smal fridge sits rather incongruously on the floor but, and here's the surprise, it's not full of eye watering lay pricey miniatures, Tobleone and nuts. Instead there's a bottle of (free) water and loads of room to store the drinks you buy at normal price from the hypermarche around the corner. The air conditioning works well (needed, it's a gloriously hot June). The bed is very comfy, might be too firm for some but just right for us. Nice cotton sheets and good pillows.

Possibly the biggest bathroom I've ever experienced in a hotel in relation to the room size. Clean, bright and white tiled. Plenty go big soft towels, full sized bath with a shower of decent strength overhead.

Agreed, the place in need of refurbishment as it has a bit of tired, slightly shabby 80s feel to it. So far we cannot fault the staff. Everyone, chamber staff, reception, breakfast staff and cleaners are friendly and welcoming and many speak far better English than I can manage French to my shame.

Free wifi throughout which is a bit ropey in our room and is why I'm writing this in the lobby. This also gives me the opportunity to observe the checking in of a large group of Japanese visitors who arrived en masse and who don't seem to have a word of French between them. The unflustered receptionist is helping the in the same professional and warm manner as the two of us experienced last night.

We were fortunate in getting a good deal for our standard room at just over half of rack rate and including breakfast which would have been 2 x 18€. There are many alternative places for breakfast within a minute or two of the hotel

So far, the only criticism I can find, and this pretty damn petty but I'll blame my arthritis for the moan, is the loo roll holder which is difficult to reach when you're/ I'm in situ.

All in all this place provides all we really expect from a tourist hotel. Maybe we're just lucky with room, the rate, the duty staff, the weather or whatever. We have two more nights and I'll update if I can find anything else to moan about. In the meantime I've taken the loo roll from the holder and. Placed it on the floor.

How this hotel manages to get a 4star rating is beyond me. the rooms are more like an Etap than a mercury, small, tired looking and depressing. We stayed here out of necessity not choice. I can only say to other travellers tht it's position is good but you can research and secure much better accommodation. Sorry Mercure you failed with the Grimaldi.

Room Tip: All I can say is do your research before booking here

The hotel staff were accommodating and the room was compact but quaint. Good breakfast and close to eateries and transport.
Loved the location and would stay there again.
