The Monastery is an old church with little to see.

However on the right side (when facing the church) there is a beautiful garden (not part of monastery) with pleasant walks and a fabulous view of Nice harbour below.

On the opposite side of the monastery is the cemetery which is a fascinating place (a smaller version of the famous Recoleta in Buenos Aires).

You could walk here easily after a visit to Matisse museum.

Take a bus (quite a few go there). Remember bus and tram tickets are interchangeable and if you buy a multiple ticket (10) available from tram stop machines, you get them for €1 each as against €1.50 from the driver. And the multiple ticket may be used by more than one person, so 4 people could validate it 4 times leaving 6 journeys. Also if you change bus or tram and validate again it does not charge if the trip is within 74 minutes (other than for a return journey)

An unexpected CONVENT on the top of the HILL of Cimiez... Nice view on the City and some nice gardens may conclude a visit of the ROMAN ARENA and other gardens nearby... A good visit to do in case you want to know more about the area... TOO MUCH UGLY BUILDINGS and CONCRETE around though, but I guess it's too late...

There is a nice park in the monastery in Cimiez. It is easy to get to by 2 buses. The open top bus also takes you to Cimiez as a stop. You can hop off and hop back on after you visited the park. There is an observation patio where you can see part of Nice. Nice garden with many different types of roses and flowers. It was my father in law most favourite place to visit every morning!

You can include the Chagall museum. Then bus (15 or 22) it to Matisse museum set in olive tree garden and then conclude with the wonderfull monastery church. You can catch the bus 17 just round the corner from the church that takes you back down and you can stop at the modern arts museum. Or you can walk back down on a series of stairways that ends up at the old port.

Free, worth it, historic, and the gardens are great. You'll feel like a local with all the neighbours relaxing in the garden.
