“Not bad but very average”
Reviewed October 18, 2013 via mobile

There must not be too many good, affordable hotels in Nice if this is rated so highly. It's not bad, just nothing very impressive.
There aren't many decent restaurants in the immediate area. The old town is a 15 min walk. Our room's graffiti 'art' design was a bit too much and the wallpaper was peeling off, however the room was reasonably spacious with a renovated bathroom. Service was disappointing as they couldn't indicate on a map specifically where you catch the bus to Monaco. Nothing too impressive but if you plan on spending the vast majority of the day away from the room it may meet your needs.

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your comment. You probably get Ben's room which is very special. Indeed, the painting has been slightly damaged this summer with the power of the new air conditionning.
This will be fixed this winter.
I'm sorry if you were not well informed about restaurants. There are plenty of good restaurants in the area, except on monday. That's probably why you may have this feeling. On monday, our restaurant is probably the best deal.
Don't hesitate to test it next time you come in Nice, even if you prefer another hotel for your stay.

Best regards,

Odile Payen

I was delighted by the Hotel Windsor, it's a really charming, creative and serene place to stay. Especially as Nice has a lot of flashy hotels, this place is very authentic, the staff are very friendly and helpful too. The room I stayed in was magical, it had a balcony overlooking the garden, it felt very private and luxurious. I slept in most days because I couldn't help but relax there! Nice is a great place for an easy going holiday. I had a massage from the wellness centre at the hotel also which was excellent. Highly recommended.

Nice with my godmother using a wheelchair for the first time was a challenge for both of us! The Windsor hotel was perfect for our week of sightseeeing and endless conversations. Our rooms were peaceful havens at the end of our days exploring - hers with a blue and white Moorish theme (think Sidi Bou Said) and mine, Mimosas and reflections (yellow dots on white walls, black lines and mirrors reflecting mirrors - I discovered a new view daily!). Please note, there are 7 steps up to the entrance andsome steps down into the tropical paradise garden. Fine for us, as Godmother can manage with support. The food was delicious - copious breakfast buffet and delicious dinners, presented as a treat for the eye; paintings on a black rectangular plate! I loved that it is beautiful there but not precious about it. Staff were genuinely solicitous and really friendly with us, and each other, seeming to love their jobs. Thank you everyone. I would love to return and discover more delights. (Nice was reasonably easy to negotiate with the wheelchair, though some mobility would be required for steps into churches and most places of interest.) Samir, merci, je vous aime beaucoup!

Room Tip: Street facing rooms - quiet, with window closed. Garden view would be lovely for next visit; take i...

Dear Guest,

Thanks a lot for your nice comment. We would like to do better for disabled people but the structure of this old building makes it impossible. Thank you so much to understand that and to appreciate all we can give to customer besides. Nevertheless, we have done a special effort for blind people and I have ordered a special art work for them in Braille. This is a funny and poetic work, and invite guest to discover this work all around the hotel,

We hope to welcome you again in our hotel,

Best regards,

Hotel Windsor is conveniently located a few blocks from the Congress/Prommenade bus stop (bus route 98 from airport). The romantique rooms (we stayed in room 15) have a huge double bed with trompe l'oeil wall and window overlooking the gardens. Had spa massage which was very good and booked at the hotel on arrival. Breakfast (and dinner/drinks) is in the gardens which are lovely, with small tables among the tall trees, bamboo, parrot aviary and view of the small pool. It's a short walk to the restaurants and prommenade, with the old town within ten to fifteen minutes walking distance. Really liked this hotel and would stay there again.

Room Tip: Room 15 is quite spacious and has huge bed (widthways).

Dear guest,

Thanks a lot for your comment,
I'm glad that you appreciate the massage. This is a one of our best service as we have very good people, even if we don't have a "regular" equipment. Just a special place where you feel well with good people.

We would be pleased to elcome you again,

We stayed at the hotel WindsoR. The decor and the rooms are very interesting (all three rooms were totally different, one with sound effects in the cabinet). Service was helpful and polite, breakfast (13,5€ pp) ok in variety. Would recommend and go there another time.

My husband and I have been staying at the Hotel Windsor every September for 14 days for the past 16 years. It Is like our second home, and obviously we are treated like royalty by the wonderful staff, including Alain Girard, who has gone out of his way to assist us since he first checked us in 16 years ago! Every year we have the same room, overlooking the glorious garden. After our days at the Sporting Plage, we pick up strawberry and lemon meringue tarts to savor on our balcony. The location of our hotel room on the top floor provides complete tranquility and peaceful sleep. When we arrive, a bouquet of roses always awaits us.There are two large walk-in closets, so all we have to do is hang up our clothes and items in the huge storage area. Since the Gare is a short walk up the street, we can easily travel up and down the Cote D'Azur And into Italy. We have come to know the local merchants and restaurant owners throughout the years and are treated like family. Where else can you get Laotian, Vietnamese, Japanese, Moroccan, Lebanese, Italian, and gourmet French cuisine within a 4-block radius? Also, the hotel restaurant offers wonderfully fresh presentations at reasonable prices. Our room cleaner, who has been assigned to us for several years, kept the room and toilet and bathroom facilities immaculate. She washed the room floors daily and provided extra towels. The front desk staff helped us with our luggage as soon as we arrived, and Alain called us a cab to the airport and helped with our heavy bags.
A l'annee prochaine!

Room Tip: garden-side with a balcony on the upper floors

The hotel is ideally situated on the edge of the main shopping and restaurant area, in a quiet and safe area. There is endless choice of good restaurants 5 minutes walk away on the Rue de France/Rue Massena going east, and in the old city. We walked to the main train station without difficulty. Very close to the Promenade des Anglais. Our room (362) was a good size, minimalist decor but pleasant and clean, very comfortable bed, good air conditioning, well fitted bathroom with shower over bath, hairdryer, safe and minibar. The housekeeping staff were excellent, we came back each day to a well presented room. The multilingual reception staff were welcoming and extremely helpful with getting information about local trains and other services. Buffet breakfast was lovely, especially when weather allowed it to be served in the garden. Inexpensive, simpler breakfast can be found in nearby cafes if you prefer. We never got round to trying dinner in the hotel but the menu looked good. The pool looked lovely but again we didn't try it out - probably not much sun there for much of the day if you are a sun worshipper. We did use the private beach - Sporting Plage - which gives a discount to hotel guests - still an expensive option at 17 euros each plus 5 euros for a towel - but very pleasant. Good small gym area in the attic conversion which also houses the spa - and a pleasant seating area there too. Overall we were delighted with the Hotel Windsor, and look forward to returning in the future.
