Lord Nelson's trousers this was smashing! Our troop wandered in here one evening quite by accident. There isn't much to draw you in from the outside but this restaurant is substance over style - much like the wildebeest of Africa. The menu is fairly typical of an Italian eatery and is well priced, and we saw others tucking in to nice looking pasta dishes, but the real reason to visit Don Carlos is for the pizza. It's cooked in an old fashioned wood fuelled oven by a behemoth of a man, but once again, do not be fooled by appearances. This man is a craftsman of fine food. This was easily the best pizza I've ever eaten (though it should be noted I have yet to make the pizza pilgrimage to Italy). A word of warning though - if you have a preference for those pizzas with the oversized crusts and puffy bases that are akin to the frozen frisbees you chuck in the oven, you may come unstuck here. However, if you are in Nice and want to enjoy an authentic pizza experience, this place is a must.
