“Great value and a pleasant experience”
Reviewed September 2, 2012

The hotel is located just out of the town centre, we followed the GPS coordinates provided by IBis and had to take care not to travel down one way streets the wrong way in our attempt to reach the hotel.

Once there we paid for onsite parking (9 Euro). The car park is secure but it is right underneath the hotel and the designers have really tried to maximise the number of spaces. It’s really cave like and in a large car it’s a real challenge to park without marking your paintwork in the extremely tight/restricted headroom spaces.
Having read reviews about the hotel we asked for a top floor room on the quiet side of the hotel. Our room overlooked the courtyard at the back which was fine. Using the noisy lift I was also glad that our room wasn’t located near to it.
Our room was large and fitted with laminate flooring. It was very clean and the air con worked well. The bed was clean, big and comfortable. The free WiFi was fast but unless you ask you are limited to internet access for one device. Modern couples and families will have multiple devices requiring internet access so make sure that you ask for individual access codes.

We started to enjoy a breakfast on the quiet courtyard terrace which our room overlooked. It was pleasant but then marred by the fact that smokers used it as they couldn’t smoke inside. At times, with no breeze, the smoke got unpleasant and we had to retreat inside to finish our food. The breakfast menu was reasonably varied, most tastes being accommodated in some way.

We found it frustrating that there was often only 1 member of staff at reception which meant that there were queues of people checking in/out etc. This is a busy hotel and would benefit from more staff at peak times. Having said that when you did get service the staff proved to be very helpful.

The main town centre is about ½ hour brisk walk and its full of bars and on street restaurants. The walk back to the hotel after dark may feel intimidating for some as some of the streets are poorly lit.

Overall great value and we would recommend the hotel as long as you are careful about the location of the room that you are allocated when you check in.

Room Tip: When checking in ask for a room that faces the rear courtyard and is well away from the lifts.

Clean budget hotel with very good service. The lift in the hotel is old and makes lot of noise all the time when it is operated so it is really disturbing if you have a room near the lift. The sound goes on all through the night.

Room Tip: Take a room away from the lift.

ibis palais des congres is an ideal place for people travelling on a limited budget but still having certain standards. The hotel is about 15 minutes walk from the famous "Promenade" and it is located in a quiet area. There is a large Carrefour shopping centre at the next corner, so there are no problems with shopping. The staff of the hotel is very helpful and we did not have problems with the rooms and the breakfast.

We stayed 5 nights at this hotel.
The room is very clean and soundproof.
You can have a nice breakfast on the quiet terrace in the patio; even some local specialities are offered.
The hotel has enough touristic flyers at the ground-floor and we were able to arrange some trips on the spot.
There is a train station (Riquier) a few streets away from the hotel, closer than the main train station.

A couple of comments however:
- the glass near the bathtub is not wide enough for shower-fond people, so we could not prevent small floods periodically on the bathroom floor
- at arrival there was only 1 person at the reception desk which was insufficient to cope with check-in, check-out and phone-calls with customers
- at departure our bill was mismatched with some other customer's; plus we paid with another credit-card than the one initially used for booking, so we had 1 credit-card charged, and another one with the money blocked on it.

Advice: make sure you check your personal and contact details both at check-in and check-out

This hotel has a very good location, in a quiet area of Nice, 10 minutes walk from the train and bus station, 10 minutes walk from the marina, and about 15 minutes from the city center. The staff is very friendly and helpful (they speak English, Spanish, Italian); the continental breakfast is plentiful, and the rates are low. Rooms are spacious, very clean, the bathroom is spotless. A perfect choice for Nice. We'll definitely stay here next time we're in town.
