“Pre Cruise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2013

We stayed on 20 July 29013, before taking a cruise from Nice. While a longer stay may or may not have revealed some of the gripes of other reviewers, our experience was very positive. We had a family room and so being a couple, we could spread ourselves. Staff were very helpful. Air con worked fine. Breakfast was good. Useful location. We walked to the Castle, the Old Town and the Promenade des Anglais. Plenty of shops and restaurant very close. Street - Marechal Joffre is quiet. Tram route is close, SNCF station and Port a short taxi ride. For A SHORT STAY, WE'D USE IT AGAIN.

Room Tip: Ask for a family room, if no extra cost for a couple - and we also were at the back so avoided any s...

We had a 3 bed corner room on the third floor, very nice and all the beds where very comfortable. The room was spacious and had a nice newly renovated bathroom with a bath.
The hotel is in walking distance from the train station and a 5-10 minutes walk from shopping streets and Promenade anglais.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. They all speak english. We had an offer with breakfast for 1 Euro per person and it was a good one.
I can recommend this hotel. I was traveling with my wife and 10 year old daughter.

Room Tip: We had a 3 bed corner room at the third floor, very spacios and nice.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in early July 2013. We had previously stayed here in 2011 and had a lovely room with a balcony overlooking the street below. However this time wasn't as great as previous. We were given a room at the end of the block with our window overlooking another unit block and dirty courtyard which was a little disappointing, however as we were there for The Tour De France Team Time Trial we kind of expected all the good rooms to be gone.

The room was small and not laid out in user friendly manner, it was quite tight to get past the end of the bed with the desk. Random that the bottle opener is chained to the cupboard - they must have a lot of people taking them as souvenirs, even though you can unclip it from the chain if you really wanted to. The wifi in our room was VERY POOR with the signal constantly dropping out, asking us to re-log in. We also asked for an iron which needed to be collected from reception, when it was put up in the room it impacted even more on manoeuvring around the room.

The bathroom was poky with a lot of inclusions - the shower area was more of a wet area / shower and could be quite slippery getting in and out.

The hotel has a lift, but it is tiny and can only fit 1 person with 2 bags.

The hotel is centrally located, a 2 minute walk to Place Massena, restaurants and shops - We would highly recommend catching the 100 bus to Menton and stopping off at Villefranche-sur-Mer - a quaint little pebble beach on the way to Monaco with great restaurants along the waterfront.

Hello and thank you for writing a review, and especially for coming back to the hotel, although you were disappointed.
i felt really bad reading your review as we really let you down you on your second visit.
i checked on our planning and i found out that you were upgraded last year to a very large family room, with a balcony. You had a standard room this time as the hotel was fully booked for the Tour de France. i understand that there is a real difference between the two rooms but we could not upgrade you this time.
concerning the room size, our rooms are 30% larger than the minimum required in a french hree star hotel (2012 new hotel classification) but i understand that they can be a little small by american standards for ex.
Sorry about the free wifi. our HP system is quite new (last january) and i have just asked the company that installed it to come again and double check it.
sorry again for your disappointment. please contact me direct before you book next time and i will make sure that you have a nice stay at the Roosevelt.
best regards

I didn't have particularly high expectations as we booked it as somewhere just to rest our heads for two nights. The location is excellent and rooms were fine but we were a bit disappointed with service. Things like having to go and collect an iron and ironing board from reception (and the lift takes AGES so this was a pain) and them never having a plug adapter available throughout the 3 days. We have never stayed in a Best Western before so maybe this is standard policy but for us, it was OK - nothing special.

Hello and sorry we did not meet your expectations although good service is really what we try to do every day of the year.
you are right, at certain times, there is only one person at reception (like many three star hotels) and we ask guests to collect irons directly at reception as it would not be secure to leave reception. i am sorry for this.
as for the plug adapters, we keep buying new ones as many guest do not return them. i will try to find a another system so all adapters are returned to reception.
thank you again
best regards

A nice hotel with a good price/quality ratio. Rooms a bit essential but rather comfortable. A nice bathroom. They should probably invest more on cleaning the whole common areas... but an overall good judgement is deserved.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights and were very pleased!! We requested a room on a higher floor with a balcony if possible, and that is exactly what we received (even during this busy time)! Our room faced the street; however, that was not a problem at all. When the outside doors were closed we could not hear any noise. We arrived a little before check in and the front desk staff greeted us very warmly, and as soon as our room was ready we were allowed to check in. Yes, the elevator is small but we were able to catch it anytime we wanted in the ams or the pms.The room was adequate in size...not large, but not too tiny either and we were able to put our 4 suitcases out of the way. The room and bathroom were clean & comfortable, the front desk staff very friendly & helpful (the best staff of our entire trip including several Marriott resorts!), and the location was ideal! We walked easily to restaurants, the train station, and Promenade des Anglais. This was a perfect place for our time in Nice and whenever we might be back there I would certainly book here again. We did not have breakfast included in our stay, so I cannot comment of the food; however, there were plenty of pastry shops nearby. Thank you all for an ideal stay!

Our recent stay at this hotel proved to be a great find. Perfectly situated for both the center and the beach. Clean good size bedroom and bathroom. Professional helpful staff and a very good breakfast made this hotel an excellent choice for a five day stay. we would strongly recommend it.

Room Tip: We stayed in a room with a side view.
