Had a lovely week at the Gounod. Lovely clean room with nice balcony good air conditioning and a very roomy bathroom. Staff were helpful and good selection of food at breakfast. Fantastic bonus to be able to use the rooftop facilities at the Splendid Hotel next door especially during a very hot week in Nice.More
Stayed here for three nights during our honeymoon in July. The hotel is in a great location - away from the crowds closer to the beach but centrally located so as to allow for exploring and walking. It is on a quiet street. The room had enough space for the two of us and had with tall ceilings, the bathroom was a bit tight. We also had a balcony looking out onto the street. This was a nice perk. It is an older hotel but they do a nice job preserving the charm of the place. The staircase was a good example. The folks at the front desk were very helpful & friendly. Breakfast is included in your stay, no need to pay extra like some other places. We did not use the wifi. Rooms do not have safes for valuables although there is a room in the lobby with small mailboxes to store very small valuables. The AC in the room worked like a charm and it was amazing to come to after a hot day outside. Not a modern place, but a very pleasant experience. I would stay here again.

Stayed with family and although not modern was very clean and spacious. Each of our rooms had a small opening balcony and good sized beds etc. we had a family room that was spacious with a separate bedroom - good if you had older children looking for their own space. Each room had a fridge as well.would stay here again

First the good news. When you get in the room there is a note to log onto their in house wifi (for an extortionate charge). When we called and enquirer about the password we were told the wifi is in fact free. It isn't very strong, but it doesn't cost anything. Also, our room was totally quiet and had a small balcony. Otherwise, the bathroom was cramped and dated but this is Nice and you get what you pay for. The breakfast is ok (the only cooked items were scrambled eggs and sausages), but there are better options very close by. Good luck!

Four of us (two couples) stayed at the Hotel Gounod for five nights from 5th to 10th July. My room was very small and did not allow the two of us to move about at the same time. Only space for one chair.
The room was clean, the bed very comfortable. Towels seemed to be fresh every day. No complaints at all about that.
We had breakfast two days in the dining room and found it comfortable and plentiful, with pleasant staff in attendance.
My only disappointment was that the Hotel Gounod was a lot further inland than it appeared on the map, and as two of us were not good walkers, it was a long hard walk returning to the hotel.
This last comment is the reason that I would not choose to stay there again - apart from that, and the smallness of our room, there was nothing to complain about. We arrived at about 10 o'clock at night, so it was not a good time to ask for a room change and after that we felt it was too much trouble to move.
The reception staff were always pleasant and very helpful.

If you book direct with us and stay at least 3 nights, breakfasts are complimentary
We clearly state on our brochures, website, etc that we are 400 meters from the sea: we even have a Google map on our "acces" page which is not done by us, and which can allow you to track exact distances; it is about a 5' walk, but of course distance is a relative notion

Stayed here about a month ago, and I've got to say the hotel and staff are great.
The room was large and airy, very clean and the bed was very very comfy, especially welcome after a hard day in the sun relaxing.
Breakfast room was clean and bright and food was ideal and light.
The hotel is a short walk from the seafront and also from the trainstation, plenty of bars, restaurants and grocery stores nearby
The aircon was very welcome, especially coming from someone from Northern England who's not used to this lovely heat. I totally disagree with an earlier comment about aircon being not upto much, we left it on when out and to come in to a cool room was great.
I've been to Cannes before for work, and I wasn't a big fan however I thought Nice was great, and I will be making this place my hotel of choice.

Nice and Cannes each have their different appeals, but basically they are district of a vast metropolis, and by train you can easily be based in Nice and visit Cannes and Monaco
