The Nice Le Grimaldi is a centrally located hotel, within a 5-7 minute walk from the beach, (Promenade des Anglais). They are restaurants shops in very close vicinity. The hotel doesn't have a restaurant or pool, but has free internet access and free wi-fi. These run very, very slowly though. The staff were ok, offering help if needed and were polite, but non smiling. The rooms are spacious and would accommodate, couples, friends or the business traveller. The railway station is about ten minutes’ walk away, offering options to other areas of the Côte d'Azur. The breakfast was a continental spread, which was adequate, offering rolls, croissants, tea, coffee, fruit, jam and cereal. They is no hot food available. The hotel is clean and well kept, the beds are slighly hard. With all considered, I would recommend this hotel, and intend to stay here again next year.

My wife and I spent four nights at Le Grimaldi in late October. The hotel is conveniently located, just 15 minute walk from the SNCF station (bus from the airport to the station 4 euros each) and less than 10 minutes from the Promenade des Anglais, Place Massena and the Old Town..

Our room on the fourth floor and at the front of the hotel was a resonable size, but the double bed was a little short. The bathroom was a little small but the shower was large. There were plenty of toiletries, and clean towels every day even though we did not expect them to be changed every day. The only complaint about the room was the TV - five French channels, two Italian channels and just one English channel, BBC World, on which the picture kept breaking up. I am not one of those people with an internet enabled mobile phone on 24/7 but I like to keep up with the news and sports results while on holiday and this was difficult in this hotel.

Breakfast was good - yoghurts, two different real fresh fruit juices, three different cereals, plenty of breads, croissants, preserves, plus cheeses and meats. This suited us as we do not eat cooked breakfasts on holiday. The hotel does not do evening meals but the staff recommend several good local restaurants, both nearby and in the Old Town.

The staff were very helpful, especially the two young female receptionists who spoke excellent English. We wanted to visit Cannes one day, but one girl saved us the trouble of going to the station on a day the French railways were on strike (what a surprise!) and told us to avoid the crowded buses, so we went on another day. She also arranged a taxi to the airport when we left (cost 28 euros).

A pleasant small hotel which suited us fine, but I do wonder how it has 4 stars - perhaps 3.5 would be more like it! Having said that, if we ever go to Nice again we would have no hesitation in returning to Le Grimaldi.

Room Tip: Higher rooms are less noisy

Having stayed here a year ago, I was happy to return with my family and find the welcoming and friendly staff I had seen before as well as a few new young faces working hard to offer the kind of service one usually only finds at a family-run hotel and with the comfort of a boutique hotel. There was talk of new owners and upcoming renovation. So far they certainly seem to have maintained a quality operation and are clearly making a solid effort. I was relieved to find they no longer asked me at checkout whether I wanted to pay my bill directly in dollars. I wouldn't hesitate to ask them for dining and other recommendations. I hope they will revive their promotional connection with Luc Salsedo - an excellent restaurant right next door as other reviewers have pointed out.

Le Grimaldi is very well situated in terms of accessing not only restaurants and attractions in Nice but also - through an excellent transport network - venues further afield such as Cannes, Monaco etc.

For me the best aspect of the hotel was that I had a large air conditioned room on the 6th floor with a good sized bathroom (including both a bath and a shower). I had a very comfortable stay at the hotel.

Staff spoke excellent English.

Although the hotel will arrange a taxi to/from Nice airport for you, the charge is circa 40 Euros each way. The cost of the 98 bus is 4 Euros each way (payable on the bus). The bus runs every 20 minutes and starts at the airport terminal; it takes you to within 10/15 minutes easy walk of the hotel.

The hotel can arrange tours for you but these can be quite expensive. You may prefer travelling by train - eg a return trip to Cannes takes between 30 to 40 minutes and costs between 12 and 18 Euros per person (depending on the type of train).

A really nice hotel in the center of Nice. It`s not fancy and modern, but it`s in a perfect location in the vicinity of almost everything; the beach, the Old Town, Sixt rental:). Great restaurants The Vingt4 and Boccacio are very close. Very very good Luc Salsedo restaurant is in the same building! The staff is nice and helpful. The hotel doesn`t have its own car parking, but a 24h underground car parking is just 3 minutes` walking. Highly recommended for its price/quality ratio. The room facing the church is great.
