“Good location near the Nice train station”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

Stranded in Nice for 2 nights after my flight got cancelled, and the airline put us up here. It's quite a decent city hotel, located almost right opposite the beautiful Notre Dame cathedral along Avenue Jean Medecin. A stones throw (maybe around 10min) walk away from the train station, and around 15min away from the Promenade des Anglais.

Probably more of a North American 3 star property. Rooms are good size for France, which is to say, not excessively small. Beds were comfy. Room decor was a little dated and could do with a freshening up, but everything was clean and well taken care of. As previous posters have mentioned, the toilet is in a separate room from the bathroom, which is nice. The bathtub and shower are combined, but they have an odd way of keeping the bathroom dry. They use a swing screen, which prevents most of the splashes from the shower, but not all. So you may get a little bit of a wet floor from time to time.

A decent breakfast is provided, but as the hotel has no restaurant, other meals are only via room service, meaning menu is limited (pastas etc only). Internet is free (much appreciated).

I didn't go to the rooftop bar and pool, so can't comment on those.

Front desk staff are good, very helpful and all speak excellent English. Communication wasn't a problem.

The only thing is I hesitate to recommend staying along (or near) Avenue Jean Medicin as it gets a little dingy at night.

The hotel itself however, is pretty decent and can be recommended esp if you're going to be taking the train a lot for inter-city hops.

Free Wifi!! And connection is fast. Location is near the church as well as the city center. Yummy breakfast although limited choices. Complimentary drink- Evian! :) room lighting is a bit on the dim side but it's ok. Toilette is separate from the shower so there's privacy when one does the other.

This is a simple, if somewhat soul-less hotel in a shopping/train station area of Nice.

In hindsight, I wouldn't stay here again because I didn't like the location, thought the hotel itself was good value. The location between the station and the beach is busy, noisy and there's a lot of dodgy people around.

Next time I'd stay either closer to the beach or in a nearby village.

3+. Very clean, a tad small but still, the installations are quite close to our "north american standards".
We had a nice "prestige" room on the last floor with a very big terrasse. (room 702)
Clean, Big and well equipped bathroom.

On the downside, we were just in front of the evelators, and yes, it was quite noisy. The Door wasn't really soundproof...

Good staff, very helpful and polite, they did speak an ok English from what I could hear when they had to.

The rooftop bar has very prohibive prices (like 9.5E for a pint of heineken...) and the week-end service is really bad. (The guy didn't really want to work. The week-day dude (Sam) was really nice and helpful though.

View from the rooftop pool is very scenic.

Free wifi from Orange (partnership with Mercure hotels it seems) but beware , they block the RTP ports for VoIP.

Breakfast:
ours was included in our price. Very impressive lineup of fruits, breads, croissants, eggs, beverages. Is it worth the 18E standalone ? Not sure; but still, very fresh and very good. (If you don't get it bundled, I strongly advise you just walk 30secounds outside to any corner bakery and get fresh croissants.)

Location: Excellent - very close to the train station; yet not too far from the Promenade des anglais or any other tourist places.

Room Tip: 702 was VERY noisy due to proximity of to the elevators.

Booked 3 rooms for family in September and happy with our stay. Hotel is well located just off the promenade and suitably located between the old town / beach area and the train station. Hotel staff were excellent, making the check in process seamless. Rooms are fine, if a little dated. Rooftop pool and deck present great views of surrounding Nice. Overall a good value hotel for Nice.

this hotel is great, the rooms beds amazing, have stayed in nicer places but you cant complain, realey... june and july is great as it is very warm in nice there is a great sundeck on the roof 6th floor with bar and swimming pool and fantastic veiws over nice, just be aware nice is an expensive place and hotel bar prices reflect that 10 euros for pint of beer and 7 euros for cola, there is a reasonable supermarket down the road though, but in general we found the surrounding bars restaurants expensive , ok for a few days.... some rooms have balconys which would have been nice but they wanted an additional charge the room was a bit stuffy and it would have been good to open a window but they dont open breakfast was ok could have been hotter...

Room Tip: would have preffered a room with terrace, other rooms although nice a bit confined and stuffy

Stayed 4 nights. Not the fanciest hotel but perfectly adequate. Good sized room with everything you need. Location very good opposite the beautiful notre dam cathedral which lights up at night. Spectacular. Few steps away from the main street which has shops and cafes and easy walk down to the Promenade De Anglaise and beachfront. Excellent tram service also which comes every few minutes. Not so hot tv options if you speak only English repeated BBC is about the only offering. Didn't realise we had breakfast until the last day so missed 3 of those, but they happily compensated us with a free taxi ride to the airport on departure. Staff helpful and spoke english very well. Watch the housekeeping staff though as there was often a lack of toilet paper, tissues, no milk one day, no cups one day, Easily rectified however. All the viator tours happily piced up from this hotel. Overall happy with this hotel.
